View Full Version : Blu Ray to DVD5/DVD9

Hi

I was encouraged on Doom 9 forum to use BD Rebuilder to back up my Blu Ray collection. They are expensive to buy and my kids have already scratched one.

I finally got around to trying it last night. Since my PC has a Blur Ray Combo drive only, I was told BD-RE will allow me to convert my Blu Ray to DVD so I can use the DVD Burner component of my drive to burn to disk.

My output file is an exact copy of the original files. In other words, there is not VIDEO_TS or VOB files.

Am I doing something wrong :confused: ? Or am I missing a step somewhere ?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanking all in advance.

Yes, your files SHOULD bear the same filenames as does your original Blu-ray discs - and if you selected your Blu-ray to fit on either a DVD9 or DVD5, you should be able to play it on a Blu-ray player - and it should be of the same hi-res caliber as the original Blu-ray. That's one of the marvelous capabilities of BD-RB ;>}

setarip, I think he wants to make a DVD5/DVD9, not a BD5/BD9.

To make DVD output you need to select the MODE menu, and click on "Alternative Movie Only Output". Then check either the DVD5 or DVD9 box.

I'm not so sure. He may not be aware of the BD5/9 (with x264 as encoder) option and assumes that output to DVDR media automatically means conversion to MPEG-2.

Thank you to every one but this is eactly what I would like to do. I would like to take my Blu Ray collection and turn the kids ones into DVD5 or DVD9 so they no longer have to use (and destroy) the Blu Ray disks.

Video Dude, I have just found the setting you mentioned. I am trying again. I will be offline for 6-8 hrs now but I will post my result when I get back.

Thank you so much for your help, everyone.

Much appreciated.

I think you're right and he just didn't understand that the default is to do BD backups, even to a blank DVD+R (AVCHD)... he needs to select "Alternate Output".

Hi jdobbs. Thank you very much for an excellent app. If i can get it down pat and become proefficient at it, i intend to donate to upgrade to the pro version. Keep an eye out for me.

Thanks again.

@savilash

As the first one to respond to you, your postings indicate to me that you don't realize all of the different capabilities BD-RB has. Therefore, to make certain we're all on the same wavelength, I'll ask you,

If you had your druthers, would you want to be able to provide your kids with HiRes Blu-ray format and quality videos that just happen to be burned onto DVD-5s or DVD-9s (referred to by some as "BD-5s" and "BD-9s"), or would you prefer to provide them with far lower resolution standard DVD videos also burned to DVD-5s or DVD-9s?

"BD-5s" and "BD9s" will playback on standalone Blu-ray players but not standalone standard DVD players (just like actual Blu-ray discs), while lower resolution standard DVDs (formatted as DVDs) will playback on both standalone Blu-ray and standalone DVD players...

Thanks again. I appreciate any donations... but just to be clear, currently there is no "Pro" version of BD Rebuilder. My hope is to provide all the features of "Pro" -- but keep it based on voluntary donations. The only thing that would drive me to mandatory donations would be if the donations fizzled to nothing... and I hope that doesn't happen.

I suppose I'd like to have both options up my sleeve. We only have 1 standalone Blu Ray play er and that is connected downstairs. My children are under the age of 10 so I'd rather they don't go downstairs at night. That is why I wanted to be able to "convert" my kid's Blu Ray collection to DVD5/DVD9 so they can play it in the DVD player upstairs.

On the other hand, if I am able to create BD5/BD9/BD25 copies of my non kid's Blu Ray, that would also be good as it will allow me to use the copies, thus preserving my originals.

Thank you for all your help, not just on this topic but on other topics as well.

Kewl. Appreciate the "pro" features. However, your website refers to a pro (http://www.jdobbs.com/Pages/DVDRebuilder/DVD-RB_Adv.htm)version of BD-RE with unlimited updates etc. That is what I was referring to. However, it makes no difference as I still intend to donate.

Sincere apologies. You are absolutely correct. My mistake. I didn't read the website properly. Thank you for clarifying.

It's cool. I just didn't want people to get confused and think they're buying blu-ray software but getting DVD.
