According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC) prior to 1987 SMPTE 170M was used for tv broadcasts (and i assume it was the same for vhs,laserdisc..?) and then progressively the SMPTE C (Conrac) was used
I have lots of videos (music etc..) released after 87 is it safe to assume they were shot or at least mastered using the SMPTE C system ?

Why do you need this info?
You can always change the colours in the analog world, if you're unsure, you may use a vector monitor. Actually, when one captures analog videos, s/he should always perform a colour correction, as the DVD and other digital media have a different coding system.
