DVDImageRipper was updated.

New version is 1.4, in which some GUI and MDS file creation were modified.

This tool decrypts DVD-VIDEO/DVD-AUDIO (CSS/CPPM-guarded) DVD discs and creates an ISO image file of the same size with the original commercial disc.

To burn the created image, another tool such as DVDDecrypter, ImgBurn, etc. is required.

Hi!

Can this tool circumvent the many other forms of protection found on commercial DVDs, or is it limited to DVD-VIDEO/DVD-AUDIO (CSS/CPPM-gurded)

As you mention, this tool is limited to DVD-VIDEO/DVD-AUDIO (CSS/CPPM) only; no other forms of protection are considered.

Regarding the previous thread, it was deleted by myself since I'm not familiar with thread communication, probably bluntly enough.

DVDImageRipper is updated as per attached DVDImageRipper_15E.zip.

Three other attached files:
- CDVDTray32E.zip (tray open/close, task tray tool, no installation required)
- GigaDump.zip (no installation required as well) window size may be nogood for the first time.
- DVDCommand.zip (tool to display DVD Commands - VMIS)

Detailed helps are not available for these tools, but I wish you try these.

Remarks:
For the past decade, I dropped in DOOM9 site many times to get information on disc media tools of AV contents.
Thanks to the files and sources of these tools, I've got a lot of information and enjoyed programming of my own tools
for the purpose of my entertainment.

These attachemnts are very very small return to the volunteer site of DOOM9, still incomplete tools though.

Above all, this symptom is the one that I have to solve.
I haven't so far encountered such symptom, but found a DVD-VIDEO named "King Arthur", by chance, which revealed the same symptom, probably because RCE (Region Code Enhancement) protection is not cleared. To be more precise, Authentication Success Flag (ASF) is returned as zero.

When authentication access is not granted, key search takes quite long time because the search will continue until it reaches the end of contents files like searching non-protected contents, resulting in ripping failure.

I have three CDVD/BD disc drives. Two of these have no problem in ripping, but remaining one revealed the problem.
In a sense, this symptom depends on disc drive and the type of copy-guard, but it does not mean the problem is solved.

I need time to solve this.

I like your GigaDump tool, it seem like it could be very useful. BUT - my screen is only 1440 x 900 and your window is too tall. Could you possibly re-compile it and make it fit a 1440 x 900 screen? I can't afford to buy a new monitor to use it! Thanks for your work.

The GigaDump 1.2 now fits on my 1440x900 screen and it works very well. I find this tool very useful, I have never seen anything like it.

Probably your purpose of using tool is supposed to be just what I expected.
Please remember that this tool is still incomplete and many featurs are still pending in my plan.

I recommend to use CDVDTray and DVDCommand (attachments in this thread) together with GigaDump, especially for DVD authoring.

hi junq,
first of all thank you for dvdimageripper ! it worked where other decrypting tools failed !
however, last night i tried to backup a dvd i own: you can see the result in the attached screenshot.
this dvd is quite odd for me, it's about 5GB but if you explore the VIDEO_TS you can find fourteen 1GB VTS_XX_X.vob (probably fake) files.
the backed up iso has the same structure and dimension of the original, that is a good result i think (the last dvd-fab looped endlessly without finding any key).
vlc perfectly plays the original dvd but unfortunately crashes playing the mounted iso backed-up. instead vlc can play the single "vob" from the backed-up iso.
please could you give me some help?

Now I can see the JPG image.

The percent indication shown on the upper-left corner of this tool must not exceed 100.0%, probably because of fake VTS_XX_X.VOB file(s); zero-size or false size or else.
I don't think this is simple becasue DVD protection is of great variety.

To try to solve this, I need the disc.
So, if you don't mind, could you give me the title or ID number of the DVD in question, in order to purchase the disc through Amazon or else ?

Hi! vlc perfectly plays the original dvd but unfortunately crashes playing the mounted iso backed-up.VLC does NOT require (or like) MOUNTING the .ISOs. Just "drag & drop the .ISO on VLC's open window...

DVDImageRipper seems to have worked normally.

I also tried to use VLC media player, thanks to the advice from setarip_old. It does certainly not "LIKE" mounted ISO images.
Ripped ISO image (not mounted) must be placed on the VLC open window by drag&drop.

At leaset for the present, DVDImageRipper seems to function normally, except for extraordinary percent indication, which I have no way to solve without the same DVD disc as you own.

the dvd is the italian (reg.2) version of the "little einsteins" episode "arriva la primavera" ("oh yes, it's springtime" is the english title), a 2010 disney's release. the EAN code of the italian dvd is 8717418255596.
please find attached a screenshot where you can see the original dvd mounted on the phisical dvdrom drive E and the backed-up iso mounted on the virtual unit H : both are 5.01 GB. you can also see the iso file i mounted on the H unit: it's 17 GB so the fake files on the original dvd became real on the iso !
searching the forum i found an interesting thread where two members are trying to build a decrypting tool for linux:

and didn't seem to be too much worried about corrupted file system, perhaps they found how to circumvent it ?

thank you for the info; unfortunately in this case, either you mount the iso and play or you drag and drop, the result is the same: vlc crashes.

Protection scheme (false location) is concerned, the problem were, I think, solved.
DVDImageRipper_16 is, therefore, removed from this thread.

As per attached in this thread, DVDImageRipper is updated to Ver.1.7.

This version probably solved the problem you pointed out, althogh I have not yet received a "Litttle Einstein, Oh It's springtime" DVD.

How large are the .ISOs you've created of any of the Disney D/L DVDs (Or any others that use the same type of protection schemes)? Are they all 7.95Gigs or less - or are they much larger because of the additional false titles?

The image size created must be exactly the Volume Space Size (expressed in DWORD at offset 50h of LSN 10h, tachnically), which is less than the capacity limit of DVD9/DVD5 (about 3FB000h sectors [8.15GB] /about 231020h sectors [4.5GB], respectively).

I have encountered this protection scheme for the first time.

1.6 or earlier versions of DVDImageRipper cannot cope with this protection scheme.

I asked about .ISO size because I wanted to determine whether you could burn any and all of them to D/L burnable media that can hold approximately 7.85 to 7.95Gb - and whether such a burned disc would, in fact, be playable...
