Important Note
As of January 1st 2011, SlySoft will discontinue the 'lifetime' licensing option. This is being announced well in advance to give everybody a final opportunity to acquire SlySoft products with lifetime free updates or change his limited subscription to lifetime.
To make your decision even easier, you'll get a 20% discount on top, applicable to all products, including upgrades from AnyDVD to AnyDVD HD and subscription renewals for all SlySoft products.
This promotion is only valid until Friday, December 31 2010, so if you are entertaining the thought of purchasing one or more of our products, now is the right time to act...

Hum... It may be true, but they've already said the same thing 2 or 3 years ago...

No not really. At the end of 2008 they said that free updates forever would only be available if you bought a lifetime licence (or a licence before the changeover to annual/lifetime).
Now they're saying from the choice of 1year/2year/3year/4year/lifetime updates then lifetime will no longer be an option after 31st December 2010 to new customers.

Is anydvd worth the money?

Is anydvd worth the money?
IMHO, yes. Some will agree. Some will disagree.
The question of "worth" is subjective. I think it comes down to how well the product works and if you are willing to pay what they are asking. Give it a 21 trial and decide for yourself.

Is anydvd worth the money? In my humble opinion: Yes, very much so. No other decryption mechanism is as consistent and reliable.

Worth is a relative value ....
If you have five 1990's DVDs, then probably not ;)
But if you have a decent collection with more collected with recent dates and are now buying blurays, then HELL YES! (ok, that really depends on HOW you use it, I use it on HTPCs so I can just drop a BD/DVD in and have it start up in Daum POTPlayer or The KMPlayer, so it earns it's keep for every disc I watch before even considering it's worth for archiving the new discs before the kids notice the new frisbies!) ...

As a long standing user who paid a very low price for the 1st version of AnyDVD HD I almost feel guilty about how little my lifetime licence cost (in real costs and cost per title that I've decrypted) in comparison to what it costs now. I didn't even own a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disk or drive when I bought the licence.
I feel AnyDVD even at it's current price is too low based on the size of my DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray collection. The price per title decription is less than 1/10% of the actual outlay for purchasing the disks. That's why I spend alot of my online time helping the guys out on the Slysoft forum.
As 7ekno said, if you don't actively expand your collection and have no plans to do so then you might bawk at the thought of the price per title. But if like me you get 10 or more titles per month, and watch them on a NMT then there should be no question about whether or not it makes sense.

A pal of mine once said PCs and trainsets are the same. They're boring if the work.
I know there are lots of people who thrive on trying to get bad software to do the task they want to do. These people don't need to buy AnyDVD, they'll be dissapointed that it simply 'works'. They'll have nothing to complain about.

I wonder if it would be illegal for me to purchase this as the law in my county clearly states that it would be illegal for me to use this program. Would purchasing this constitute a will to use it. Hmmm law - such a fine line it weaves.

Who cares? Are you planning to sue yourself? Otherwise I see no possibility how could the police charge you for using some software. Besides, I don't understand how that program can be considered illegal? It allows one to watch his/her legitimate content on his/her own HTPC for instance. In which way is this usage illegal precisely?

It's not illegal to purchase it then you should have no issues. What you do with it behind closed doors is your business (assuming this is for private and personal use).

One may legally buy a gun, however firing it (even if none is hurt or killed; eg in a Firing room or at Sporting clubs) may be otherwise regulated. I think it's more or less the same regulation worldwide.
I'm afraid for software other issues do matter, like the need for a software is the urge to use it (one cannot expose a software like a Papua-New Guinea spear or a Samurai sword in the living room). There are no other uses for software.

Has anyone done a careful comparison of the net pricing of the similar AnyDVD and DVDFab Passkey product lines?
I say careful because:
1) One product line is priced in Euros, while the other is priced in U.S. dollars
2) One is offering a 20% discount, while the other is offering a 30% discount
3) One offers a product that handles both DVDs and Blu-ray discs, while the other is split into two separate products for DVDs and Blu-ray discs

It's nice that there are choices out there for people to decide on.
If you like Slysoft, then by all means, buy their stuff.
If you prefer Fengtao, then you can buy their products.
As long as people got options on decrypting their legally bought and paid for movies, the market will decide who gets the lion's share of Euros or dollars: Slysoft or Fengtao.

I just had a look at Slysoft's price list, and I must say that they have become a little greedy lately. They want 109 EUR for AnyDVD-HD with unlimited updates (well, you get 20% off right now), but for this kind of money I can buy a BlueRay burner these days. My complete operating system costs far less.
There is no doubt about the superior quality of their product, but at least for DVD there is a couple of free alternatives. And even for HD decrypting you have MakeMKV and Fengtao's free stuff which is still free for the time being.
Conclusion: How many backups do you make? Decide for yourself if a decrypting application is really worth this much money...
Cheers

Yes, Fengtao's has free stuff, but do you really think it is worth the trouble. For example there were few instace where blu-ray rip by Fengtao software caused problem in x264 encoder and and it was not accepted where anydvd worked fine for same movie.
Though there were few cases like this. But if you gone spend your money it is better to get something which is finished product.
Also you can search and look around in BD-Rebuilder forum to find example of these situation.
Personally if you gone use BD-Rebuilder, I would choose AnyDVD over Fab software.
This is what I think.

I certainly agree. I used to enjoy fiddling around with the various free programs, but broke down and bought the lifetime licence for AnyDVD just before the "first" time they stopped the lifetime plan. Now it's sort of boring! Haven't had a coaster in a very long time:p

meaningless... exchange rate exists anywhere.

This is the exchange rate on day of of typing and from this DVDFAB way expensive compare to AnyDVD.
351.40 USD = 265.147 EUR (Time-10:10/Date-Friday 10 December 2010). (This is for DVDFab after discount of 25%.)(Time-10:30/Date-Friday 10 December 2010).
577.50 USD or 437.672 EUR (Time-10:30/Date-Friday 10 December 2010). (This is there standard price) (Time-10:30/Date-Friday 10 December 2010).
Slysoft on other hand with everything for lifetime license with discount is 169.68 EUR (which includes 20% promotional discount) for lifetime licenses including Game Jackal. (Time-10:30/Date-Friday 10 December 2010).
On other hand for all slysoft products and with everything for lifetime license is 303.00 EUR = 399.686 USD (This is there standard price) (Time-10:30/Date-Friday 10 December 2010).
Their is big difference right there. Sure they provide compression and others stuff in their package, but most function you can get it for free from respective authors. Basically they charge you for product which they get from other sources and use in their program. Often without acknowledgement in their EULA.
Also an ex-customer I am very dissatisfied with their products.

manolito I have to agree with you there. Their pricing seems to have gotten out-of-hand. I got the lifetime update option back when it was reasonable. No doubt it's a good piece of software -- but you shouldn't have to pay more for a decrypter than you do for an O/S. I can get a 3-pack of Windows 7 for $129...

There is no question about greed . But dvd fab is more greedy than anydvd.
