View Full Version : Creating 4 channel audio from 4 wavs

I have tried just about everything. BeLight, BeSweet, Foobar, you name it. I either get choppy sounds, white noise, or silence. Pretty sure I have enough power here with my i7 processor and 8 gigs of ram.

I want to convert these 4 monophonic wav files to a 4 channel (or upmixed 5.1 etc) video. I will provide a simple image of the album as my "video" footage.

What am I missing here? After downloads didn't work, I dropped a few bucks on a quadraphonic reel-to-reel and some tapes for it. I now want to convert these to a video format that my TIVO HD will recognize.
:thanks:

WAV2AC3Enc. (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-CD-Rippers-Encoders/WAV-to-AC3-Encoder.shtml)

Use the Mux-Wizard for that...better check if the Source has got some delay or so...if so, you have to set it inside the Program...

Look here...(nice WindowsGUI, easily to handle)

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-CD-Rippers-Encoders/WAV-to-AC3-Encoder.shtml

You create a 5.1 AC3 (DolbyDigital) with that...you can set the Bitrate(use ConstantBitrate!) and the Channel Setup, as well as the AC3-Parameters(there are lots of..).

If you create the Channel-Setup, you just use FL,FR,SL,SR ... leave Center and LFE out...you create a Quadrophonic AC3, then. Nearly every Standalone should be able to play it back correctly.

There would also be the Option to create a DTS-Track, but you need different software for that, and i do not have experience with DTS, since AC3 is sufficient enough...(especially with high bitrates the difference is not recognizable).

BTW: I DEFINITELY love PINK FLOYD. Interstellar Overdrive and all the old Syd-Barret recordings are really psychedelic and simply astonishing. But after UmmaGumma PinkFloyd turned in a direction which is crappy to my taste... ;)

See You...

Thanks so much! I don't suppose there is a way to get a log out of that program is there? I used the wizard to set up my 4 channels, took out the -3db gains for surround (since I would assume that is for surround sound mixes and not quad which should all be equal)?

I then clicked encode and it flashes up a screen for a half second, but then leaves me with a 0kb AC3 file. :(

EDIT:

OK, figured out what I was missing. It was set up to encode in 3/2 when I needed to set it to 2/2. I just assumed it would have set this automatically. Now, I just need to find a way to encode it in a video format so that TiVo will be able to play it.

I love Germany. I go to Nürnberg every now and then to visit friends. Gorgeous, gorgeous country and great bier! :)

Theoretically, you just have to mux this resulting AC3-File into a Container, which is friendly to your Standalone. I would say, some standalones CAN read a single AC3 without having it muxed into a container, but you never know...

If you want to find it out, and if you have a DVD-R in spare, then just burn the AC3 to disk and feed it to your standalone and press <play>. If it works everything is just fine..

There would be another option: Mux this AC3 into a DVD-Audio-Container. Theoretically, you just need a DVD-A - Authoring-Tool. Something like Mux-Man or IFO-Edit for DVD-A's. I am not sure if IFO-Edit can handle this job, but if you google a littlebit, you may find it out by yourself. Surely, there are some DVD-A-only - Authoring Tools, which you can get for free - just google a bit. Every Authoring Tool should be able to read AC3-Files.

Another Option would be: Mux your AC3 into a Video-Container, like AVI or VOB. Both are Containers your standalone should be able to read. An idea would be:

Use the Avisynth Image Reader and compose some sort of "Slideshow" and add the Music to it. You just need some pictures, an appropriate AVI-Synth-Script and something like Virtual-Dub. You also can refuse AVI-Synth and only use Virtual Dub....there are lots of possibilites. You also can use some Video (live Videos or so..) and add the Music to it...or ... or ... or.... The Possibilites are plenty...

The easiest, dirtiest way would be to just mux the Ac3 into an AVI without any pictures. It is read by your standalone like a video, then. Means: You get a black screen with music...not the smartest way of authoring, i would say.

If you just want the music without pictures, authoring a DVD-Audio would be the most "beautiful" decision.

....

BTW:
thanks for your kind words....i myself live here in Germany since my day of birth and sometimes i get the feeling, that i hate this country for its conservative politics...but...thinking about your words turns me into a feeling, that it isn't rather that bad here... ;)...

Have fun and visit us if you find the time...see you soon in here..

Greetings...

BTW2: That leads me to tell you all, that today is my Birthday....yes it is really....17th of November 1982....yeah...a free beer for everybody... ;)

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Outside of perhaps the religious aspects, you have a pretty liberal country in comparison to here. We don't have the systems for housing and healthcare that you do. That equates to INSANE taxes for you folks, but I suppose it is all up to what each country wants for themselves.

Back to the topic at hand.....
I ended up trying my friend's Sony Vegas Pro 10.0. This did EVERYTHING I needed it to, although would be pretty pricey if I didn't have a friend in the studio business. It took my 4 channel audio, split the center channel off and the LFE @ 80hz. Tossed an image of the album cover on it to make it an AVI and bam... worked fantastically.
