What encoder does tmpgenc use for MPEG2 encodes?

Years ago where there were reviews about MPEG1 encoders in a computer magazine I used to buy, TMPEG was among the leaders with Cinema Craft Encoder.

It was custom, their own MPEG1 encoder. I'm not sure about the MPEG2 encoder now, but I think it's also theirs, and I believe it's of higher quality compared to other cheap shareware/commercial encoders but I don't think it's better than HC.

iirc AC3 audio was also a plugin. I have TMPGEnc Plus. About the only time I dig it out now is to use the mpeg tools for a quick mux or demux. The muxer supports .ac3. That was the "work-around" for .ac3. Let it encode to whatever audio then demux and mux in the .ac3 track. :)

edit: actually it was set it to output separate .m2v and audio tracks. Then just mux the .ac3 with the .m2v to produce .mpg for authoring.
