hi!
I'm new to video editing.
I acquired some videos from DVB-T.
file type: mpg/ts
encoded in mpeg2.
I downlaoded mpeg2 plugin for virtualdub.
Question is:
what I have to do for crop and encode the video?
I tried to crop ADs with virtualdub but the video has to be reencoded, no direct video stream copy.
So I think that first I have to encode in xvid/divx and after crop ADs.
Am I wrong?
Suggestions?
Thanks

if you crop you have to re-encode. you cant simply crop then direct stream copy coz the stream is no longer the same.

ok, I understand but I have to use GK and/or Avisynth?
Or I can do all with Virtualdub?
thanks

When you say "crop ads" are you referring to removing the advertisements?
I think there's software designed to do it automatically but I can't help you there.
MeGUI might be worth a try. After you set up your encode you can open the Avisynth script it creates with the AVS script cutter and use the video preview to select which parts you want to encode and which you don't.
I don't use VirtualDub much, but I've use VirtualDubMod a bit (I assume they save streams the same way). If you make your cuts on keyframes VirtualDubMod will do a direct stream copy without any re-encoding. I haven't tried editing mpeg2 video that way but I've edited a few AVIs. It's just luck as to whether the key frames fall where you want to cut, although I suspect in the case of commercials inserted in TV programs there's a good chance they will.

You can do the cutting/cropping and converting to DivX/XviD in VirtualDub in one go. There is no need to use an extra GUI for this.
You can never use Direct Stream Copy on MPEG2 in VirtualDub.

Do you mean crop as in cutting ?
Adverts removing of mpeg2, search for an nle video editor that encodes only the frames around the advert cuts. There are a few now that do this, processing is near same speed as copying the video to another hard drive.
