I've mainly been encoding cartoons and anime (and admittedly in FFDShow, I've been using the same filters for SD movie/TV show content as I did for the cartoons) but now, recently, I've started encoding movies from DVDs that I, erm.. have. FluxSmooth is a filter for noise reduction and I've always liked the smoothing effect it has, working well for cartoons/anime, but for these movies, I noticed significant destruction in detail even on its lowest of effect and disrupting in the flow of striped patterns, creating an illusion of blurriness on top of that. Very disappointing...
Noise reduction filters - wow is there a lot of them, of course. Just, all the ones I've tried before this have their fair share of side effects which, in my opinion, were way worse than the removal of a few little dots on the screen. Like those, many times filters in general, even great ones like FFT3DFilter though not as much, reduce the "juicyness" of the otherwise solid film looking footage - take away the liveliness of its looks.
I guess in a descriptive way just for you guys to know where I'm coming from, I'm simply asking for suggestions for a similar filter to FluxSmoothST, if not a little bit better, without its dreadful side effects. To be more specific, since there's all kind of noise, mainly I'm talking about the kind more commonly seen nowadays in contemporary shows or movies. Please provide an accurate description though of how you feel the suggested filter(s) work, where it works best without negative effects, or whatever else you feel appropriate to mention.

PS- Inception has been a pain to encode for the past few days. Just can't seem to get it perfect XD It's sharper, cleaner (though not enough), has better brought out details in more ways than one, better resolution, doesn't lose significant details I'm sure as would be credited by anyone's account, has a better overall PQ like in terms of colors/contrast, but still the original just FEELS better. It has this wholeness to it that I was trying to describe earlier that the encode simply lacks, improved noise filtering definitely contributing to the solution - sharpness being the other problem in the encode, even if "better".
