x264 resize

Hi,
I`m resizing some movies recorded from my satellite in H264 format 1080p and they are more than 7 GB and i trying to fit on one DVD-R in 720p resolution with MeGUI. 320 Kbps AC3 sound.
Because that HD channel i watch does not have quality like bluray but it`s not bad at all. I just want to have some movies in my collection :)
Can someone tell me what is best resizing metod to picture stay sharp, i don`t care for time for encoding. Best possible quality.
I read many threads, some ppl tell use Spline64 when reducing size, some tell use Lancoz4, some even tell use GradFun2DBmod.

So basicaly I want to movie fit one 4.7 GB (if not longer than 2 hours) (4470MB that`s ok it left with 2-3 MB of free space for any case), sound 320Kbps AC3 and what is best settings for resizing?
I can use HDConvertToX (easy one) MeGUU (complicated one :) StaxRip (creating temp files) etc.

btw. using latest x264.exe 32bit.

p.s. probably there is some thread maybe i didn`t read about this, that will be good also.

Use the one that you think best resizer.
If you can’t judge it at all, then use Bicubic resizer.
It is the safest rather than the best.

And, I recommend you to stop using AC3 if you don’t want to make AVCHD (or if original audio is not AC3).
AC3 is a mass of useless padding.

Ok, i will use AAC 5.1 320 Kbps, that should be good.

u should use a quality parameter q at 0.5 for lossless like compression, or 0.35 for general storage settings...

q=0.5 with what encoder? I suspect that with faac that won't be enough for lossless quality...

I use StaxRip now, quality is awesome! My source is 1980 x xxx and i set output size to 1280 x xxx, very slow settings with 2 pass x264, Tune FILM, audio AAC ABR 5.1 320kbps and size is 4470 Megabytes :)
I make also my template in StaxRip and just load movie in StaxRip. So basically i need 2-3 clicks and i`m done :)

edit: Resize is Spline64Resize, picture stay very sharp even in 720p (1280)

Yeah, broadcast stuff is usually total fail. You can probably subsample below 720p and not see any difference XD

It cracks me up, because their sources are usually fantastic! (HDCAM, HDCAM-SR, D5-HD) After any number of transcodes by various systems of wildly varying quality it ends up on your STB looking like ass :(
