branching movies BD25 pausing issues

I'm using win7 professional, ripping with anydvd, on occasion dvdfab. I have the required ffdshow, avisynth and matroska splitter. I am also using bd rebuilder 35.01

I always do full disc bd25 backups onto Ridata printable discs, highest quality, normal priority setting and any title with a single large m2ts file always plays fine. However any movie with multiple branching files, the watchmen and in this case Iron Man 2, always stutter/freeze at these file change points.
I have tested with a different writer, currently a Pioneer BDR-205, and have made successful full disc backups iron iron man 2 onto bd9 and bd5's. I was unable to make a working actual dvd9 however i did use a verbatim bd-rw and burned working copies of the bd5 and bd9 image files. I have even tried making a bd25 using the automatic quality settings and still I got the same freezing errors. I am at a loss.... obviously something is screwy with my machine. I use imgburn 2.5.2 to burn my discs.

If possible, perhaps you should try burning at a lower speed...

I have burned at 2x when I have done the bd-r's and re's the only speed I have not tried is 1x... This has been an issue for me throught 2 operating systems, 3, power supplies, 3 sets of system guts, motherboards/cpu's and 2 burners. I have tossed in a few different brands of media with no real different outcome. They always play fine on a ps3 or pc but not on a standalone player. Even the verbatim bd-re has failed me on the full 25gig backup... I will have to try the 1x speed on my re next I suppose.... I must have some setting wrong in my bd-rebuilder....

I've had this problem before and I believe it's related to DTS-MA audio. I had this problem with Iron Man 2 as well and when I chose to encode the audio to AC3 the pausing was gone. I also had this problem with Star Trek TOS and it fixed the issue there as well.

wow, that makes quite a bit of sense. I have been checking the other branching titles that I have had issues with, toy story, the watchmen, sherlock holmes, they all have dts-ma audio streams. unfortunately I prefer the DTS audio track to Dolby Digital, Looks like I may have to settle for DD for the time being until this codec is properly handled. I'm trying it now and will be able to check it out tonight, VERY excited and hopeful!!! THANKS!!!!

I have made a full backup of Iron Man 2, region A, kept the original HD audio, burned to Ritek BR2-00 with my Matshita BD burner, played it back on my Sony S360 standalone thru the HDMI cable and my Pioneer receiver and there was absolutely no playback issues at all. I could not tell the difference from the original Blu-ray either.
I have done other multi .m2ts full backups as well, and all have played back perfectly.
So I hear your frustration, sympathize with your situation, but cannot agree with this statement.

I'm not talking about loosing HD audio entirely, just DTS HD audio. The Dolby Digital HD audio will still be on the disc. I have always set my bd-rebuilder not to re encode dts to ac3, I prefer the DTS mixes, I find them to be a pit punchier. This is still theory as I cant test until later this evening anyway.

It might also simply be a standalone player issue. Iron Man 2 played fine on my PC, but once I put it in a Samsung 1500 I experienced pausing. Unfortunately I don't have or know of anyone with another player I could test with, but converting to AC3 was worked for me so I hope it solves your problem.

HOLY FLERKING SCHMIDT!!! I converted the DTS to Dolby Digital and bamo! I got a working copy! only on my insignia player, my lg370 still doesn't have an update for the firmware to even play the actual Iron Man 2 Blu-ray.... Way to go LG!! It's only been out for a month... Assholes!!! but I digress, IT WORKS!!! I still have to watch the whole thing, but the couple of file changes at the begining are a-ok!!!!! So what the hell is up with the DTS stream then? DAMN

As I have said, I have never had a problem with the DTS HD MA track, as well as True HD and LPCM, and I have always kept it on my full movie backups to BD-25. I have done several multi .m2ts full backups as well, and they have all worked and played perfectly.
Perhaps your issue, and possible work around, is related to something other than your standalone player or burner... your receiver and/or HDMI cables.
But if the audio conversion to DD 5.1 corrects the problem you are experiencing, then that is a good find for you. ;)

This could very well be your problem. There is no reason to keep the HD audio if you do not plan to have the proper equipment for its playback. It is very difficult to distinguish HD audio from DD 5.1 anyway, and probably not even worth keeping.
Anyway, I am glad you seem to have found a way to start enjoying all of your invested time and effort! :D
