:confused:Hi all.
I copy my DVD to the HD and want to play the movie from there.
I get a number of files in the new movie folder and them being:
Default.PLS
Video.TS. BUP
Video.TS. IFO
VTS_xx.xx.BUP
VTS_xx_x.VOB
I think you get the picture.
At this point I usually pick the largest file with the smallest number assuming that that is where the movie begins. Sometimes this woks, other times I have to try again.
Either way, even if I do manage to start at the beginning of the movie, my CyberLink Power DVD program stops at the end of that chapter and I have to go through the same procedure trying to find and then play the next segment.
After all that my question is, how do I get the movie to play all the way through with the minimum of in put from me? :(

Don't play the files, play the DVD. In my PowerDVD this means opening an IFO on the hard drive, and not a VOB file.

Nope manono!
I click on any of the .IFO files all I get is the Power DVD splash screen of the stage and nothing else, the screen just sits there.
I tried every file in the movie folder and the .VOB files are the only ones that play anything.

And I'm assuming here you put the DVD onto the hard drive correctly with all the needed IFOs and BUP files, along with the VOBs. And you could also try a different player, one such as Media Player Classic Home Cinema:
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
Oh, you don't usually double-click on the file or IFO but open PowerDVD first and then open the DVD. Sorry, I'm on a different computer at the moment and mine on the other computer is old anyway. Here's the Doom9 old guide:

Hi manono.
This is what I do. I insert the DVD into the DVD player/burner, the movie wants to auto start. I kill this process. I then open FabDVD 8, it then searches for the inserted DVD. When found, I then select "Movie only" as that is all I want.
I am asked on this screen as to where I want to path the ripped copy, but instead of pathing it to a burner, I path it to an earlier made up folder on the desktop.
I am also given at this point the option if I want the 5 or 9 format. If the compression is showing less than 85% I select the 9 option. It does not really matter which option I select as the end result on the HD is the same, both will not do what I want.
I then click 'start' and away she goes.
When the process is complete, I get the "success" window suggesting that this ripping went according to schedule.
The rest you know.
Incidentally, my Power DVD is CyberLink PowerDVD for XP version 4.0.

If I remember correctly, what I need to make PowerDVD recognize the ripped DVD was to show it the path to VIDEO_TS content, using OPEN DVD or OPEN FOLDER or OPEN MEDIA (sorry, I don't remember, I don't use the PC as a player). There is also the possibility for that particular version to accept only ISO images and not unpacked files.

I also have a version 4, but an old one. As I said before, you point to an IFO but, as Ghitulescu said, nowadays you point to the folder containing the files. Open Power DVD, hit the little icon of the DVD-RW, and point it to the files:

I was just testing some more. If I double-click on the IFO, the movie starts up automatically using the MPC-HC to which I linked before. If I right-click the IFO and then 'Open With', with MPC-HC the movie starts up. Opening with Power DVD gives me just the PowerDVD splash screen you mentioned before you also got.

Hi all.
O.K. I am having some positive results now, I just have to get some practice in. I am though having some problems when I try to store some movies onto a 32 Gig SD card. I think the problem may be the 4 Gig FAT32 limitation.
Does anyone know if a SD card can be formatted into NFTS, if so how?

RegardsFAT32 4GB file size limitation refers to 'per file', not total. Anyway, format NTFS the same way you'd format normally but just change the FAT32 option to NTFS. Right-click your SD card in Windows Explorer, choose Format, change file system option to NTFS.

Hi there Scientist.
Not so easy.
My 32 Gig SD card was originally FAT32 but due to the size limitation of FAT32, I could not load the large singular ISO movie files onto it because as you know most are 4.5 to 6.5 gig in size.
Windows XP will only format FAT, FAT32 and exFAT.
To get it to format into NTFS I had to fiddle with the settings in Control panel/system/hardware/Device Manager/Generic-multi card USB device/ and click tab >policies, and then select the bottom radio button (the top being the default) it then then gave me the option of formating to NTFS from within the drop down panel you stated.
I did this and directed XP to format into NTFS. The formatting window came up and the bar scale went to the very end. It paused there for some seconds and then presented me with the message, "Windows was unable to format this drive", or words to that effect.
When I checked the SD card I found that it had now been reverted to the RAW condition.
I suppose in a pinch I could try to format it back to FAT32,but then I would be back where I started. Not the desired outcome.
I have tried to search Google to find a (free) program to do this but after 6 hours of searching still no joy.
I think we are now straying from the original thread so I will start a new thread asking the question, "How do I format RAW SD card into NTFS".
