x264 and Apocalypse Now (Redux)

Wth? Looks like Apocalypse Now (Redux) is a 3h movie filled with fast scenes, smokes everywhere, fog all over the place and a lot of rain.

I gave it to x264 at 656x320 with --placebo --bitrate 800 (2pass).
This is the first time I see x264 struggling at that bitrate / resolution.

This movie is a real challenge.

Can someone mention other difficult movie for encoders?
