View Full Version : Exporting directly from Sony Vegas 9, into an x264 format?

Hi everyone.
As I understand it, the x264 codec is generally one of the better codecs for exporting quality movies to. In particular, I want to take my ~3 minute video, in 1280x720 resolution, @24 FPS, and fit it onto a DVD (So with a max file size of 4GB).
I think the x264 codec ought to be fine for me, but how can I use it to export directly to from within Sony Vegas 9?
I've looked at the various tutorials posted around here, and none of them seem to discuss that.
Thanks in advance,
~tgp1994
(P.S. If you think I should be using a different codec, please say so :))

In order to export the video to H264 and not lose quality video, you will need installed vfw x264. Do not use the built-in codec in Vegas.
And best of Vegas to export video and audio in uncompressed or use lossless video codec (eg Huffyuv). Then encode obtained with such MeGUI.
You know how to configure the export from Vegas 9?

It's a tad bit difficult to understand your english, so let me try to summarize:
You want me to first export my video from sony vegas in an uncompressed/lossless format, and then encode it with a vfw x264 codec, through MeGUI? Is that correct?
Also, I'm fairly familiar with exporting from sony vegas, I was just concerned about getting it to show up on the available codecs list, although now that seems unnecessary.

It sounds like a loss of video/audio quality could be expected... is that true?

Well, it seems like MeGUI will work fine for me, although it would be nice to see a plugin for Sony Vegas that allows me to export directly to x264.

export my video from sony vegas in an uncompressed/lossless formatYes. Then encode with x264 using a special program. (I prefer MeGUI)
Settings for Huffyuv:
Colorspace - YV12
predictor (????) - Plane
Enable "Adaptive huffman tables".

From what I know, H264 is the codec.
x264 is the encoder.
Export as raw file from Sony Vegas first, the use a x264 encoding GUI to encode the raw file if you are not familiar with command lines.:)

Meh, still seems redundant for my needs.
No, vfw x264 codec to encode the video during export from Vegas. This is a bad idea.
That's pretty much what I said :P

Oh, so I was doing it right :) What's weird is, one of the tutorials I read noted that it was unnecessary to "mux" any audio in if it's already within the raw exported file, thus confusing me until I read that I had to select the AVS script as the sound input :P
Thanks everyone for your help.
