What to do with .mod files?

Hey I have a bunch of .mod video files and was told to rename them to .mpg and they would input fine in premiere cs3 but there not. If there is missing software that woudl be best. They are from a hd cam corder. I have tried to use them in vitualdub with no luck. I can get them in avidemux but I have to convert them huffyuv which is ok.. but the issue is there is over 30 different clips. I need a way to mass convert them. I'm thinking for editing that a loseless video codec would be best if i can edit the source directly and dv wouldnt be but I'm not too sure how premiere cs3 handles huffyuv or Lagarith or even .mod for that matter.. I'm thinking lagarith would be faster in premiere as it a dual core computer?

try MTS or M2TS or TS
Best idea would be to use the software recommended (or bundled by your camcorder).

That doesn't work though for HiDef files, does it?
After saying that, can HD files be .MOD?
Hmmm...mine aren't.

The extension ".mod" is just a part of the file name. Nothing more, nothing less.

That means the file extensions doesn't say anything about the actual content or the format of the file. I could pick a random file (video, word document, whatever) and re-name it to .mod :p

So please tell us: What does MediaInfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en) (in Text mode!) say about your .mod files ???

Give SD copy (free) a try. It will change .mod to .mpg, you can also change the 16.9 flag.
Make sure to select a different output folder in case your worried as it will overwrite the originals.

just to let me people now i tried both sdcopy and renaming premiere just wouldnt see it. So what I did was, put it through dgmpegenc and want through avisnyth and made it loseless. it was huge but be easier to edit with.
