Hi, I've been a registered dvd rebuilder user for a good number of years now. Ive really had no problems with it whatsoever during all that time. I upgraded my computer to newer specs and installed windows 7 professional 64-bit. Rebuilder installed just fine when i installed windows and I have used it a few times without any problems. Now all of sudden it doesn't even work at all. I double click the desktop icon and it doesn't even start up....nothing happens whatsoever. I tried running the executable from the directory, same deal.
I've also disabled my antivirus, antimalware, firewall, etc to see if one of them was preventing the program from starting up. Still doesnt start up whatsoever, no error messages no thing. It's almost like the program doesnt even exist on my computer. So I've tried reinstalling avisynth and rebuilder. Nothing even happens after a reinstallation.
Anyone have any suggestions or help?
Thanks in advance!

I've had two other reports of that problem -- and both of them were caused by heuristic anti-virus and/or spyware software that was preventing execution. I'd pretty much guarantee that is your issue. Those "heuristic" package as pieces of garbage... I'm not sure spyware/viruses are any worse than "guardians" that prevent them (and stop your system from working correctly).
Do you have "Spyware Doctor" running, for example?
What I am very sure of is that the problem is NOT DVD-RB. It is successfully running on thousands of other systems using 32 and 64 bit versions of XP, Vista, and Win7.

Thanks for the reply jdobbs. Im pretty sure it's not rebuilder either. Ive been a faithful user of it for a number of years...i was just shocked when it wouldnt start up one day....ive had no problems with it on my win7 x64 til the one day when it wouldnt start....this was a couple of weeks ago. I just didnt have the time when it occured to try figure out what the problem would have been.
As for "Spyware Doctor", no im not using that software to my knowledge. Right now im only using malwarebytes' anti-malware and nod32. But Ive disabled those and still couldnt get rebuilder to run. I doubt nod32 would cause it not to run as rebuilder was working fine even with nod32 running.

Have you tried turning OFF the ever unhelpful UAC in Win7, its great at protecting your system, from unauthorised software but also helpfully blocks a lot of software that you have installed needs to run, like calling external software such as DVD-RB does
I gave up on Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as I got fed up of software refusing to run, especially with the very latest releases of their software, I think the latest is 1.45, and caused me major headaches blocking my software which sounds exactly like what is happening to you
I also binned Norton years ago as that had turned into unreliable and bloated software prone to update errors, even their own forums explain how to uninstall it and try again when you get constant errors .. how does that make their software look if they admit its got 'issues' on occasions
I now use Emisoft Anti-Malware (for about 6 months now) working with the free ZoneAlarm Firewall, and has a very good (but also very paranoid) virus checker/spyware/malware built into the Emisoft package, which is updated very frequently so you NEED to tell it to allow some software to run, especially where software calls other external software as it thinks its trying to do something it shouldn't be. But once set up it runs very happily on my system, and works very nicely with ZoneAlarm FREE firewall
It doesn't like calling HCEnc from DVD-RB, but tell it its a 'safe' applications and it runs faultlessly. I can't get it to like running more than one instance of HCenc though, but running at an average of 120-140FPS is fast enough for me and also means HCEnc doesn't hog my system as I use it for other things at the same time
I do have the firewall and anti-malware/anti-virus to inform me what software is trying to do though. It means a few more alerts until they 'learn' what software is safe, but also means YOU have control over what is blocked, not the software blocking it and screwing things up without telling you
I use Win7 Ultimate 64-bit so have experienced a fair few issues with software not liking the OS, and where I can have installed pure 64-bit software and Win7 specific software
DVD-RB runs fine on my system without any issues now

The important point about your problem is that it was working on Win7 x64 before and it "suddenly" stopped.
So, you changed something and you have to figure out what it was.

Thats wot i find so ODD about all this
Iam somewot an experienced windows 7 user , and i have the EXACT same thing going on!!
You woud expect from an fresh clean install that everything is working properly and faster!!
Maybe just like with that startup boot times the we have to wait untill the security decreases  to make it work.
No seriously, the first thing i do is configurate things like and ESPECIALY THINGS that are automated and WAY TOO MUCH OVERPROTECTED .... yet... still have the same thing going on!!
Like i said in my previous thread i have started about this tissue issue.... since this is reported from another user too this month .... M$ might have secured an hole somewhere that prevents rebuilder from working on new fresh clean installs !!! A weak spot that only could be patched from an new installed win 7 !!
Because frankly iam working with rebuilder many many years now... and this is the first time it doesnt even startup no error no nothing !!!!
Now iam REALY SCARED, as its the only easy to use application that does a GREAT JOB encoding stuff !!!
cheers,

For those not following both threads, kabster found his issue (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=157546) to be another security screwup by one of the "protection" software mechanisms.

I used to use Comodo, but in the end found it was just far too paranoid and blocking everything. I got sick and fed up of telling it what was safe to run multiple times, so gave up and uninstalled it
The paranoid/heuristic scanners of most virus software wrongly identifies a LOT of software and so blocks them, especially if software calls other software from within it as the virus scanner then thinks its dodgy software so blocks it, usually with a cryptic message or no message at all

OK I got it working again...i use comodo too but i gave it a shot to see if rebuilder would work if i uninstall comodo and reboot computer. So comodo certainly was the culprit. Thanks to everyone for helping out, especially kabster and steptoe for having the same problem as me and letting me know that it was comodo causing the problem for them.
Once again thanks everyone. Have a great weekend!!!

The odd thing is that even if Comodo is uninstalled and then doing a fresh install and trying to tweak every possible setting, DVD Rebuilder Pro doesn't start.
The free version of DVD Rebuilder always starts and works as it should.
Will be nice to be able to use the Pro version again. ;)
Gave Norton a shot and that one works with the program. :)

Hi there,
FWIW, I'm using the pro version and found a way to use DVD-RB with Comodo Internet Suite and posted my results here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=158072).
Any way, sorry you were unable to get RB to work with Comodo. I think Comodo is still a great piece of software, despite some shortcomings, and for a great price, too (free). :)
