I've started backing up Blu-Ray discs with a decrypter and BD Rebuilder, but I am wondering whether there is any danger of retroactively losing all my backups at some future date. The scenario I'm thinking of is say in 2011 my PS3 gets a system update, which has a payload containing some sort of new Blu-Ray firmware that specifically looks for questionable discs, based on signatures left by DVDFabHD or whatever. I understand they don't want to shut out original factory discs, but might copies be vulnerable?
I also read in the Wikipedia articles that Blu-Ray has a provision for some sort of lockout based on watermarks, but I'm not sure what that entails. Would a digital watermark be lost in BD50->BD25 recompression?
