Hey guys,

So I'm the mod for this forum now, apparently :D

I'm thinking of refreshing the FAQs etc... is there anything in particular that folks would like to see? Just testing the waters..

Hi ... and thanks for your effort...

I would like to see a sticky about Video&Audio Related Software.

I think of some sort of list of programs and what they are for, when they are last updated and so on.

Would be glad to see it in here...

Thanks and bye..

Well, AMD is about to come out with their new cards. It'd be cool to see that in here but there's also going to be many other places to find info about 'em. Hm...IDK :)

First off, Congratulations . :)

Perhaps a, tips for building an encoding PC/rig
Something like what type of CPU do I need, with a brief description of the benefits of more cores vs encoding times, ie :
SD to AVI ..app. time to encode on single, dual, quad etc.....
SD to X264 ...
HD to ...
How much ram is needed. 1x2g vs 2x1g, single ,dual or tri channel type of thing.
The importance of read write speeds / defragging/ partitions on HD´s .
( I know people that are still using 20g, 133 ata´s for their OS.) lol.
Cooling , another important one, as any encoding is like stress testing. Your PC and can quickly turn into a furnace.
Hope there´s something you can use.

Good ideas all around. I've been buried by commitments to work IRL, but I hope to sit down and do some cleanup / reworking of the stickies in this forum

Thanks all!

I second this, I am sure most of us wanna know what kind of rig is suitable for what kind of job(s).

Divide it up by Desktop, Apple (if you can or have an apple friend to handle that), Laptop & Netbook.
I deal alot with people who use X264 to encode a movie and then it stuttuers on their laptop..due to hardware, improper SW setup or types.

SW needed for successful Audio & Viewing

Congrads BTW :)

I think that should go in the FAQ in the playback section. But it does need to be posted in a FAQ, I agree.
