View Full Version : Could somebody help create more team badges?

Unfortunately the source material for the existing one is not available anymore :( So, if in order to create a matching set we need to consider redoing the existing one, that's something we can talk about (it should look pretty much the same in the end though)
I've had this idea for a while.. create more user categories that get their own badges (like the current team badge).. the badges would have the same basic design but use different color tones and writing.
I was thinking of a VIP category for users that have made a significant contribution to the community (e.g. created an important tool), as well as a category to recognize former moderators for their time on the team.

how much "the same"?
is this ok? http://www.webalice.it/f.corriga/temp/d9new.gif
(colors are a bit off... its a work in progress made in about 2 minutes...)
what about something different?

I thought color theme and text would be changed... e.g. instead of the blueish tone we have for the moderator team, something gray'is perhaps?
what about something different? You can certainly try... but I don't have a clear idea of what it could be so I cannot offer any guidance.

Again just a quick rustle up in GIMP. Not really like what we currently have so no sweat if not to your (or anyone's!) taste.
Colours, sizes, text could be easily changed if you like the design but TBH it is a bit busy to make any smaller.

Nick, I like the direction that is going.

!!!
In all seriousness, this is a very good idea. If I had more design skillz I'd happily contribute. Unfortunately I'm sorely lacking in this department.... :(

I find Nick's theme idea quite good, though the texts should be a bit brighter IMO (towards pure white) and maybe with outlines too so as to be more legible.

nick badges are cool. IMHO a gold colored text would be perfect.

Nick: overall design with the movie like bits - excellent. Difference in colors likewise.. they're pretty distinct. Fonts are hard to read-though, there should be some more contrast.
Also.. the team should have the blue badge I think (both because we currently have blue and because that's my favorite color :)

@Nick
Not bad for a WIP, although personally I'd prefer a more cheerful colour scheme, the current colours are a bit depressing imho.

OK I've taken on board the advice - sharper colours, more contrast for the text, blue badge for the team. Here goes with v0.2 :)

Just one concern - red/green colourblindness is common. Can people read the yellow text against the green?
If not (old text style and wrong wording I know!) this is an alternative colour scheme. I'm not sure it fits the colour scheme of the rest of the forum though.

Verdicts?

Yup, they look like there nearly there imo. Don't know about the colour blindness issue though?

I think the text is a little hard to read. I can't quite put my finger on why. Something about the lighter text on the dark background maybe. For example I find the black text on light blue of the existing badges easier to read. Perhaps a little shadow behind the text would help.

I have a red green color weakness but only a little bit, without the tests I would have never noticed it.

Outlining the text or shadowing may help. I'm moving house this weekend so will look at it later in the week. These badges were only an idea I threw in to gauge response. If anyone has other ideas for design, let's see them!
