I've finally bought my BD-recorder. Its main task being to burn camcorder und SAT recording to BDRs.
Now and then I also need to do a backup of my BDs.
Apparently there are 4 software to decrypt a BD (listed din the order I remember):
AnyDVD HD, DVDfab, DVDfab passkey and MakeMKV.
None of them is free, however the copy/decrypt function of DVDfab is considered to be free.
After reading some 200 posts it resulted that all of them need to "phone home". Various reasons have been given, but none of them are convincing. My video PC was never and will never be connected to the net.

So the question to be answered is now:
Can these work without an internet connection?

Note: I know I can test them myself, however I have a lot of payware installed and I won't install anything from zero, going through all the certifications again. I did that when I was younger. It's not bravade, if I don't find the software that fulfills my requirements I simply do not use it.

I can only speak for AnyDVD and MakeMKV, and both of them call home mainly for updates or to check for a pirated key. And both of them give you the option under "Settings" to disable calling home. And yes, both of them work without any restrictions if you have no internet connection at all.

I have used DVDFab in the free decrypter mode from the start and never allowed it to connect through firewall. So, at least it should work.

Thank you, all of you, for the quick answers

Before anyone gets the wrong idea: I'll pay for the right software, just I don't want to connect my video PC to the net (even for updates), that's for the PC I'm typing at right now :).

Hi.
I have all 3 programs installed.
Passkey, anydvd and makemkv.
As far as internet requirement goes.

1) dvdfab passkey, can decrypt DVD without it,
But need internet connection for any BD/bdnav and such

2) Anydvd, no need internet for DVDs and BDS, unless
The BD is very new and is not in the database.
Requires internet for bdnav and other Japanese tv
Recording stuff.

3) Makemkv requires internet only for updates and
Sqv files when they are updated. It does not remove
Region code from the BD and uop.

Hope it helps.

All program need updates, that you can use another computer to download the update that is needed.

I agree with dirio49. I tried anydvdhd, dvdfabpasskey, dvdfab7 and MakeMkv trialware versions. In the end I ended up buying Makemkv. It decrypts MKBv 1-18 BD+ no internet connection required. If I need to update to latest version I use my laptop and dowload and intall the latest version to the Desktop via a USB flash drive. :)

+1 for makemkv
Available natively on linux, can stream across network, cheaper than anydvd, does not require Internet connection etc etc
