I have an avi file I am trying to clean up & fix, it is progressive frame, 720x480, 25fps (?). Where there is any motion there is combing/ghosting in the frame, can it be fixed?

http://forum.doom9.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=11570&stc=1&d=1284537961

(This is from public domain movies here (http://www.publicdomaintorrents.net/nshowmovie.html?movieid=238)! I hope this isn't in violation of any rules?)

I have searched the forum here and tried many avenues, eg rePal, SRestore, bob/restore, even tried resizing to 720x576 first and then repal/srestore etc...?

I find a simple blur(0,1).blur(0,-0.7) will clean up the combing quite well, but there is still that ghosting.

Is this salvageable at all?

Hi there, you need to give link to a somewhat smaller sample,
expecting the guys to download several hundred MB to see
if your prob can be fixed, is optimistic.

EDIT: I believe "MediaFire" is the preferred file host site here.

OK sure, StainlessS - http://www.mediafire.com/?k5yvjpbivky7ltf

(Looks like my sample pic has disappeared anyway?)

What I've uploaded is a 10 sec or so sample (~15MB) with lots of movement that shows the combing & the ghosting. Looks like this avi has been butchered... but can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance!

... but can it be fixed?
I'd say, "No" as it looks to me that it was downsized from 720x576 to 720x480 without taking into account it being interlaced. It could have easily been fixed at 720x576 since it's not even really interlaced, but is only field-shifted. Any field-matcher, such as Telecide from Decomb or TFM from TIVTC, could easily have made it progressive again without even deinterlacing it.

You might try it yourself. When I go to get your ExBlend, "All of the available FileFactory Basic download slots on this server are in use by other people."

@Manono

I had a problem with MediaFire myself (the day I signed up), think it kept coming
up with something like, "cannot access your account" when already logged in,
so I just gave up, maybe I'll try again. Anyway I hear you and shall find and
additional host. Thankyou for telling me.
