A remaining delay of +1ms could not be fixed.
what does this fault mean? is it a problem?
i get it in a log file when i use the eac3to part of bdclown to demux a bluray file ready to make it into a mkv.
thanks

Without recode we can only delete/insert complete ac3 frames. Each 48 KHz ac3 frame have a duration of 32 ms, then we can obtain until +- 16 ms of error in the delay.
But, don't worry 16 ms is less than the duration of a video frame then isn't perceptible.

So this isn't a problem and I don't need to do anything?
It's a dts hd track, should i be re-encoding with eac3to to avoid any audio sync issues or can i leave it as it is?
Thanks
p.s.

You don't need to do anything.

i found this thread on the problem...
should i follow the advice given here when muxing into an mkv? http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154290
it says you can add a value into mkvmerge to to balance out the delay? or to avoid any delay should i just transcode the dolby hd/dts to ac3 every time

Don't use eac3to to extract / merge mkv files. Better yet, use eac3to ONLY to encode / decode audio files.
Use TSMUXER (link below) to extract mkv / blu-ray files.
Use MKVTOOLNIX with MKVMERGE GUI (link below) to create mkv files.
http://www.smlabs.net/tsmuxer_en.html
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/
This are the official / best tools to extract / merge mkv / blu-ray. Other tools for those jobs sucks.
Problem solved.

Use TSMUXER (link below) to extract mkv
tsMuxer is not able to detect audio delays in mkv files - so dont use it for mkv.

im not using eac3to to make mkvs...
im using mkvmerge for that :)
at the moment im using
1. anydvd hd to decode the bluray and rip it.
2.bd clown to output the audio, video, chapter and subs.
3.feeding all those into using mkvmerge to make a mkv.
i thought that was a pretty good work flow...
just need clarification on my original questions really :)

You should not transcode to ac3.
To make it to a hair's breadth insert delay value given by eac3to in Mkvmerge (Format specific options - Delay)

To make it to a hair's breadth insert delay value given by eac3to in Mkvmerge (Format specific options - Delay)
and then that value is written to the resulting mkv and will be in sync? just checking because i may later want to reencode the resulting mkv to watch on my ipod...

This is a wholly unsupportable assertion and everyone should disregard it.

Yes, please do not claim that any specific tool is official / best. Read up on the forum rules if this sounds strange to you.
My two cents on the OP's question: it's a non issue. When there are small remaining audio delays (as I understand), it's because the audio and video are just slightly offset due to differing durations etc.. As tebasuna51 pointed out, there is no way you'd ever notice this. I'd say most folks would be hard pressed to detect even a 50ms audio delay, which is less than two frames.
Consider also that during playback clock jitter etc will cause sync to constantly drift a bit - probably a lot more than 1ms ;)
Long story short - relax! :D
