However, I noticed that .mpg does work well.
Just remux your AVC/AC3 from m2ts or ts into .mpg and works flawlessly.
1) How does one do that ?
2) what DirectShow splitter supports H.264 in MPG ?

Indeed. Mainconcept works fine.
I've had issues doing it with ffmpeg, even though it should be possible.

Thanks for the insight.
Now I think I know why x264 still doesn't support .MPG output  :D

Does .MPG means program stream?

Do you have a suggestion on where to get some code from? Oh wait, you must be going to write it.
Apart from that, why would you want program stream output? I thought transport streams were all the rage today.

why would you want program stream output?
Transport streams have more overhead than program streams.

What's wrong with mp4 or mkv ?
Not very much software or hardware support for avc in mpeg-ps

Come on, man, I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity. :)
When I tried to mux VC-1 in MP4,
you came along and asked me,
¿ what's wrong with MKV, M2TS, ASF, or AVI ? ,
do you remember ?
And for your info, MpegSplitter.ax 1.3.1249.0 demuxes AVC-in-MPG fine.
