..stand alone blu ray players.
hi everyone.
I am new to bd rb, thanks jdobbs for your work.
My first go at it was only partly successful.
I wanted to make a copy for my uncle.
i used dvdfab to put on my hard drive.
Then installed latest bdrb and the recommended versions of avi synth and the other 2, as per first post of this thread
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716
I did a full backup with menu and all that.
I used automatic setting, all default.
So when was done I used imgburn to burn the blu ray folders to disk. I did this manually and not through bdrb, I changed file system to udf and 2.50. When I started the burn it still asked me if I wanted to use it's recommended settings and I said yes.
I used memorex 4x blu ray, and i burned it at 2x.
I tried playing it in a new sony blu ray player which has 3d capabilities and it gave me the error message "cannot correctly identify disc". I tried the one done here, also sony, bout a year old and didn't get far, just a red bar showed up as if loading, then nothing.
Anyway, I then tried the playstation 3, and it worked.
why would this be?
I remember seeing ps3 folders with the bdmv and certificate folders.
I deleted the ps3 folders and am re doing it with bd rb.
Will this make it work in my stand alone players now?

wel for sarters dvdfab is crap (atleast from my experience) it can't handle discs properly the way slysofts AnyDVD can handle them. Secondly you're using crappy media wich is probably one of the reasons if not the main reason the sony player can't find the disc. Try quality media like Verbatim. I've used nothing but those (wether it be normal discs or LTH discs) and every single brand of player i insert the discs in, recognises them.
The PS3 folders will make absolutely no effect, those folders are there for if the disc is played in a PS3 obviously and the software on it requires updating. Nothing more nothing less, it has no effect whatsoever on real standalone units and does not affect playback in any way.

Thanks for the reply. :)
I thought memorex would be fine, damn...
I went through the thread here about media and came to the conclusion that ridata and memorex, etc. would be fine cause they are all made with high standard and stuff.
sigh..I should have bought just the one spindle.
Well, good to know bout the ps3 folders, deleting is user choice, if ya want to get rid of 100mb or so.
I guess I will try burning it again, but i will let bd rb do it this time, maybe i get lucky that way.
maybe see if the stand alone blu rays need updates too.
If I'm missing something else, maybe a possible solution i missed, help me.

@MrT.
I agree with Ch3vr0n, DVDFab is not the way to rip, use Anydvd HD.
I also would purchase one or two BD-RE discs, and use them until you get reliable results.
I also use Memorex brand BD-R, which are Ritek-BR2-00, and have never had a bad burn yet!
EDIT:
I would not burn the same project again, you need to re-rip the original disc with Anydvd first, then run BD-RB on that new rip.
I guess I will try burning it again, but i will let bd rb do it this time, maybe i get lucky that way.
No luck involved, only good rips(Anydvd), good software(BD-RB), and good burner with ImgBurn. :p

Hi!
To me, it appears that you've done and used everything properly - and may simply be up against a compatibility issue. I'd suggest that you read through the following thread to possibly determine the compatibility of the players you've tried using and the media:

hi :)
I have the Sony S350 down here and a newer sony 3d upstairs. The sony s350 is ok right? It's in the list, not sure if that means ok or not.
I will keeps tabs on that thread.
Would It make any difference if i did movie only with bd-rb? or is deeper and have something to do with bdmv structure or how was decrypted.
PS: my burner is LG WH10LS30

I will voice my opinion again. :p
Your first step should be to re-rip with Anydvd HD. Don't overlook this step!
I have a Sony BX1 and S360, and they play everything properly except BD5/9 full backups that have PiP.( a known Sony issue )
I have used close to 100 Memorex BD-R discs, and have never had a bad burn or a disc that would not play properly on these two players.
If you have the correct versions installed of the required software listed on the first page of this thread, BD-RB will work and you will have successful backups playable on that S350. The PS3 can be more difficult with full backups to BD5/9 media, but BD-R should be fine. Movie only to BD5/9 should work.
Invest in a BD-RE, and try a few full backups. This will avoid costly mistakes. When you have consistency you can be confident that your BD-R backups will be good too. :)

ok thanks, I will rip it with anydvd.
I have another question about the certificate folder. I searched the forum about it.
Is it true that it's only needed for software applications like powerdvd? I know imgburn create one if there isn't one when you burn it.
If I did a full back up of bd50 to bd25 with bd-rb and burned it to disc for stand alone playback, would the absence of the certificate folder contents (there some files in it), make the disc unplayable? or is it strictly for powerdvd like programs.
I need to buy a bd-re, lol.

the BDMB and certificate folders are mandatory for a valid BD structure. Without them its a 99% guarantee the disc won't be recognised.

Looks like you've got a typo - I'm sure you meant "BDMV"...

Thanks all for your help and education, big helps...
I rip starship troopers with anydvd, but it did not change anything, still would not start , it shows that darn red bar loading than nada.
bd-rb gave me no error, must have some secret super duper encryption that sony never realized.
I'm gonna go buy a bd-re, it pains me when I have to throw away a bd-r :P
I did try another movie though, and was able to do that. Was nice to use bd-rb for the first time successfully.
anyway, bye for now. if i get bugs i will contribute to the bug thread.

Hi friends just let you know that for sure if a bd works on ps3 must have installed the Corel WinDVD, if the bd play well if it works on PS3, on the other side when they believe the img with imgburn should be placed in settings + bulid + Copy Permission Indicator Reset Flag.
and that's all folks ready for Ps3.
Sorry for my bad English..

I have done a full disc bd25 backup of iron man 2 onto ridata printable media. works perfectly on a pc, but freezes at the file change points. I have had the same problems on other multi file movies before. is it my media? do I need to get better stuff? I have trued falcon and other brands as well. not verbatim yet, its quite pricey and I dont want to spend buckets 'o cash to have the same failures... I use anydvd hd to do my rips... any ideas?

I ended up doing Movie-only backup for Starship troopers. That's an option for you to put on back burner.
