I'm really new to dvd ripping. I'm trying to capture small sections of a dvd in avi format. Is this possible? I was able to take the vob. files off the dvd and onto my hard drive with a dvd decoder. I then opened the vob file with dvd2avi. I have been trying to copy small sections with the program unsucessfully. When I do "save as avi." it appears like it only saves virtual markers because the saved file is very small. It seems like there should be an easy way to copy small sections of a dvd. The size of the files are not important, so they can be large as long as it is a fast and high quality method. So if anyone knows a program that would work or a step that im missing any help would be appreciated.

Well...
Maybe it won't be the fastest way to do it - it will need you to read some guides, but it will be the best possible way...
Try Gknot - read doom9's guides concerning Gknot (very easy to follow) and you should be fine. You can mark part of the movie in dvd2avi and Save Project. Load it into Gknot and follow the guide...
Hope that helps a little.

Thanks Aleksander!
At first I tried using Tmpg, which worked, but my avi files were huge. 400 MB for a 20 sec clip and the quality wasn't that good. The same clip with your recemended Gknot is 8MB. One more question I have is that I have been cropping them for 4:3 format, becasue I am going to be exporting them with Adobe Premiere. My camera won't accept 16:9.
But the problem is, that regardless of the format that I have it in. In Premiere the quility is very grainy, and in my default windows media player it looks much better. Do you know if their is a possible conflict with a premiere plugin or have any sugestions to try? I don't know how familir you are with premiere, but thanks for your help before. :)
