multiavchd always crashing my computer

it has been doing it everytime i do a transcode

right near the end, after all the processing it suddenly dumps data into the ram.. using all 6GB which then crashes the computer and everything is lost..

thinking of just giving up with this now and just using bd rebuilder and loosing the menus as im wasting hours of cpu time and electricity

I thought I won't answer, but then I wanted to share my experience, too. For almost 2 years I use multiAVCHD and it never crashed my PC.

If you get the blue screen and memory dump - it definitely is not multiAVCHD, but either your OS and PC, which are not properly configured, CPU is overheating because it is dirty or something or system is improperly overclocked.

multiAVCHD is a simple Win32 application and can never cause Windows blue-screen "STOP" errors, it can never break memory boundaries with OS or other applications' memory. It can hang, close by itself, error out with weird messages, but I didn't put a line of code to crash PCs.

Should it happen during transcoding then the problem is with your directshow decoder configuration/version.

There was no need for a separate thread for a 'wasted time with multiAVCHD' comment, but thanks for sharing. :rolleyes:

what are the possible reasons for my ram to fill completely up just as it begins writing all the processeddata to hard disk? this is where the problem lies for me

If it is dumping the memory it is usually a STOP error in Windows.

You can find information in the Windows EVENT log about the error. It usually includes information about the application / driver / module which caused the crash. Or if you see the BLUE SCREEN you'll find information in the middle of the screen about the "Fault module" like in the screenshot where ntfs.sys breaks all...

Also specify when exactly it happens during multiAVCHD processing.

ok i never actually see the blue screen, it just locks up completely and my desktop freezes..

it will also do this if i do not do any transcode.. ill get a screen shot just before it does it now..

What I see in the screenshot is multiAVCHD COPYING 16GB file from one hard disc to another (or worse to the same physical drive). Copying 16GB m2ts file with multiAVCHD takes some time... Doesn't it show the progress properly?

Another important question: Is your TEMP and DESTINATION drives NTFS formatted?

yes they are the both ntfs and yes they are different drives

the problem is that it loads all the ram full first.. that initial 11% took about 10 seconds.. it seems to use the ram as a buffer.. i had to kill the task before it filled the 6gb otherwise the computer would have crashed

I never had this issue and it shouldn't happen. The buffer is just 16MB and is reused constantly.

Let me take a look again and I'll get back to you.

In the mean time I'd suggest that you try BD Rebuilder.

ok thanks, it does seem odd, i thought it may be a setting somewhere saying [use ram for buffer] or something but its nothing i can find

Something you can try until I figure it out:

1) Copy your original BDMV folder somewhere
2) Open "SETTINGS" tab and mark [x] Move transitional files [x] (all).
3) Process your disc

You can skip 1) if you have a copy of the disc elsewhere. With [x] (all) option files will be MOVED and not copied and it will eliminate the the memory issue (I hope). Also have in mind that with this option the source folder will be EMPTIED. The option will work ONLY if you do step 1) or if 'source' is not read-only.

p.s. The issue you have seems to be related to memory management. Try to change [compatibility mode] for multiAVCHD.exe to "Windows XP" or "Vista" and give it a try when you have the time. I'm using "Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate" and re-authored some Blu-ray discs (with main movies > 30GB) but the "copy" process never used more than 8MB buffer (it is hardcoded). What OS do you use? I see that you use almost the same desktop background as I do. :)

im running win 7 64, and yeah almost same background

ill try the list of things this week and see if any solve the problem.. why it would use the RAM as a buffer i dont know
