I've bought a nice new 7.1 surround receiver, another pair of speakers, and a Radeon HD 5450 video card. Playing Blu Rays via PowerDVD 10 Ultra in 7.1 surround went off without a hitch.

How do I encode a playback the audio in my MKV files in 7.1 surround? I tried keeping the original DTS-HD audio track, but I'm having poblems playback the 7.1 audio track. I saw a suggestion to convert the audio track to a 8 channel FLAC file, but I'm not sure how to go about the conversion.

Is there a tutorial I missed in my searches? Is there an easier way? I typically have used TSMuxer to convert the HD audio to AC3 or DTS, used MeGui to transocde the video to a smaller MP4 file, then remuxed them into a MKV file.

Thanks!

Rob

To convert HD audio to FLAC you can use eac3to (for DTS-HD you need the ArcSoft decoder).

To play audio HD you can read: ffdshow tryout project : HD audio discussion (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=151151)
