No more auto AR for DV footage in MPC!

Hi!

For as long as I can remember, Media Player Classic has automatically corrected AR for my DV footage. For example, I play a PAL 720x576 footage clip that has an AR of 16:9 and MPC will automatically stretch the window when it catches the "magic bullet" in the header.

However, I just reinstalled Windoze and now it doesn't. I can't remember ever having to install any particular splitter for MPC to behave this way. What has happened? Any ideas what I could be missing out on?

Okey, guys, you will probably not believe me, 'cuz this is insane. Hear me out though. When I launch WinDV.exe, and subsequently mplayerc.exe, then the 16:9 DAR flag is respected thus black padding appears on my 4:3 computer monitor (after clicking once in the MPC window, alternatively fullscreening it). However, if I kill the WinDV.exe process, and then launch the same DV-AVI clip in MPC, it doesn't honor the DAR flag, but show in native 5:4 (720x576) resolution. This is _madness_, and a true mystery. In short, I need to have the WinDV.exe process running in the background for MPC to treat files right automatically upon playback. This has never been an issue before. Does anyone here have a reasonable explanation for this behavior? Needless to say I doubt it! ;)

I haven't seen the exact problem you describe, but I have noticed on my system that, if you launch WinDV before MPC, it forces MPC to use a different decoder or process or renderer for DV.

So on my system, launching MPC alone works "properly", whereas launching WinDV then MPC stops MPC from deinterlacing DV by default.

I've never looked into it further.

At least something, knowing that WinDV indeed does have an impact on the behavior on DirectShow playback. Guess now it's only up to me to find out what caused the malfunction. Weird though, I have the same installed codecs/renderers as always (ffdshow/Xvid-vfw/Haali media splitter), and none of these has ever caused any trouble before. Also, I tried uninstalling all of the above, and reboot. The problem remained afterward. Aawergh, thankful for any further hint or idea.

Thanks a lot scharfis_brain. I was convinced that my renderer was set on "System default", as it has always been. However, after a quick check I noticed that it was instead set on "Overlay". So I changed to "System default" and restarted MPC, now it worked like a charm.
