This is going to sound like I'm an idiot but this is true and, to me, rather odd.

I have the region 2 release of "White collar". It clearly states region 2 NTSC on the box.
The video is 720x480 29.97 and is NOT 3:2 pulldown.
DGindex states that it is progressive.

Any thoughts on how I can end up with a PAL copy?

What does DGIndex report for the Video Type? Do you have Honor Pulldown Flags checked?

White Collar, the TV show? Does it look like it was shot on video rather than film ("soap opera" effect)? If so, I imagine you're doomed to get jerky playback or heavy artifacting blending/decimating to 25fps.

DGindex reports the frame type as "film 99%" and frame rate as "29.970030". Clearly the frame rate is wrong as this show should last 41mins (approx) but it is running 33mins and is way out of sync. By trial and error I find that Assumefps(23.985)! Pulls it all together.
There are no duplicate frames and no interlaced-looking frame to indicate 3:2 pulldown. Honor pulldown flags is not ticked.
I just tried ticking Honor pulldown and the result is 29.97 3:2 pulldown at the correct speed. However, Telecide doesn't like it, I get green flashes along the bottom of the video!

Not VT. It looks very much like high quality film.

If film percent is 99% then it *is* 3:2 pulldown.

Set Force Film in DGIndex. That will give you 23.976 progressive.

Then, if you are making a PAL DVD, you can use DGPulldown's 23.976 -> 25 mode.

What is your target format?

Target format will be xvid avi. Once I have a good 23.976 version I can cope!
I used forced film and as you say I end up with a perfectly good 23.976 version, thanks.
Why, though is the original stream 29.97 without any duplicated or interlaced frames? I have dealt with hundreds of NTSC files in the past and the 3:2 has always been very obvious in the source...?

P.S. Neuron2, thanks for all your tools, this would be a lot more difficult without you.

Obviously it isn't. Did you say exactly how you determined it was progressive 29.97fps?

As manono points out, you haven't told how you viewed it. I guess you had Ignore Pulldown set in DGIndex. Then single stepping will show no combing but the info dialog will show 29.97.

Set Honor Pulldown and then single step through a motion area.

Yep, that's what I did! If they had made a proper region 2 disc with nice PAL pictures I wouldn't have got so confused!
