Hi There
I have purchased some Blu-Ray movies for my children. However, kids being kids, they have already scratched one of the disk beyond repair. Since these movies are quite expensive to purchase in the first place, this destruction of the movie is rather annoying.
Therefore, I was wondering if someone could give me some tips on how I can make a backup of these movies so the kids don't get their hands on the originals. Can I be pointed to the correct applications etc.
I would be most appreciated with any help provided. Please bear in mind I am new to all this so you may have to put up with some silly questions. I apologise in advance for any silly questions.
Thanking in advance.

First you'll need some software to remove the copy protection (AACS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Access_Content_System) & BD+ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BD%2B)). AnyDVD HD (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=42529) / DVDPasskey (http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=7196) do this at driver level. DVDFAB (http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=7196) and MakeMKV (http://www.makemkv.com/) do this in the application. We'll assume you have AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html) installed.
The next question is do you simply want to make a 1:1 copy? If the answer is yes, start up ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) and rip the ISO to your hard drive with AnyDVD (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=42529) running in the background. Once this has finnished, mount the ISO you created with Virtual Clone Drive (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=37105), disable AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html) and playback in your regular player (Cyberlink PowerDVD (http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdvd/download_en_US.html) or Arcsoft TMT3 (http://www.arcsoft.com/estore/software_title.asp?ProductCode=TMT3P)). If all is OK, restart ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) and burn to disk using the ISO you created.
If you do not want to make a 1:1 copy (let's say because you consider 50gb BD-Rs to expensive), then you have a few options:
Freeware
. Main movie only : Clown_BD (http://www.clownbd.com) (no recoding)
. Main movie + menus : Clown_BD BD Copier (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154574) (no recoding)
. Main movie as AVCHD : multiAVCHD (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143744)
. Main movie (recoded) : BDRebuilder (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716&highlight=bdrebuilder)
Payware
. Main movie or complete disk (recoded) : DVDFAB (http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=7196)

Many Thanks. I won't have time to try out your solution until next month due to work commitments. However, I will post results as soon as I am able. On a separate note, will your solution allow me to convert Blu-Ray to DVD ? I just realised I don't have a Blu-Ray burner on my PC and the CEO @ home (she is tough) will not allow me to buy one .. at the moment.

In that case you can create AVCHD. In layman terms it is blu-ray in DVD. But it will play only on blu-ray players provided they support AVCHD disc.
Also it will only have main movie.

As an alternative to the (limiting) suggestion made by "HWK", you can make excellent quality customized FULL DISC (movie, menus, extras) backups compressed to fit on DVD5/DVD9 media by using "BD Rebuilder".
I have personally made well over 100 such backups and continue to be amazed by the quality. If you read through the BD-Rebuilder sub-forum here, you'll note that there's a plethora of users/testers who share my opinion ;>}
