Ripbot264 & Handbrake vs. Purchased Conversion Programs

My LG BD590 blu-ray player can play movies ripped to my computer hard drive. I have been ripping my blu-ray disks to my hard drive using MakeMKV, or AnyDVD, a stream extractor and MKVMerge to put them in an mkv container that my blu-ray player will recognize. The resulting codec is typically VC-1 which my LG BD590 doesn't recognize.

Since it appears I have no other choice, I've been experimenting re-encoding the above to H.264 using Handbrake, RipBot264, [spam], respectively. They all work. I end up with containers and codecs my LG BD590 can read. The downside is that it takes 18 to 24 hours depending on the converter. For my purposes, is there any advantage to buying [spam] versus Handbrake and Ripbot264, which are free? Thanks for the help.

Compare the quality and encoding times and make a decision. You say you've already bought them ("I've been experimenting re-encoding the above to H.264 using Handbrake, RipBot264, [spam], respectively.") so there's no point to give these notorious programs free advertising (especially when we regularly delete their spam postings), and when you have only 1 post and we don't know your agenda here.

Make your own mind up as to which are leading edge :P

If Ripbot264 is too slow, use a faster x264 preset ... it's that simple (and I bet there is no way of speeding up whatever product you bought) ...
