I have gotten a Chinese dvd player named "Digitec DV-028", it is completely black in color and has support for USB and MEMORY CARD. It plays the avi movies perfectly fine except for my older movies. It doesn't play Divx 3 movies :(. How do i get to play them? is there a possibility? I cannot open the cover because it kills the warranty. Is there any other way to figure out which chip set is it? so i can look for a newer or custom firmware for it. I checked on the market that there are countless number of Chinese made dvd players with countless number of brands. But they all have the common look in software, so they all maybe using a common chip-set. Only the brand and logo changes. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. Thanks a billion.

1. using a FW that is not intended for a specific gear might kill it (and it's not covered by the warranty), if you manage to update it (ie the gear doesn't reject it or you find a way to circumvent this).
2. do you really care about the warranty of a Chinese clone? I mean for the price ...
3. the possibility of obtaining customised FW depends on the versatility of that particular gear: this requires a lot of insider knowledge, a lot of debugging, a lot of wasted time and so on. Unless the gear is worth it, nobody would do it. Well, you can always set a prize and see if anyone is willing to do it...
Summa summarum:
1. for identifying the chip - solution YES: open the case and pray not to be erased or glued
2. for finding the appropriate FW - solution MAYBE
3. for creating a customised FW - solution NO (it's not worth)
