Blu-Rays - 100s of tiny files

I've noticed that recently, the studios have become enamored with adding literally 100s of tiny (few hundred K each) .M2TS files to their new Blu-Ray releases.

They are not in any way associated with either the primary .M2TS files or the .MPLS files. Other than (I think) making for a longer loading time, I have no idea what purpose(s) they might serve.

Does anyone actually know what purpose these tiny files serve?

Some of them are for rumble chairs.

Really? Never thought about the rumble chairs, I just assumed they used a little code library that was stored on the disc...

Have you looked at the m2ts files to see what they contain? There has to be some piece of video in it...

One common thing could be a still gallery. If the stills were encoded as single frames, they would appear as a bunch of tiny .m2ts files.

If it's a Warner title, they are fan of including various anti-piracy warning cards in every language that's ever been invented since the history of Man (I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in a Klingon one... :rolleyes: ). So a lot of WB discs will have 30 or so tiny .m2ts files on them for these warning cards. Other studios might have several cards like this too. Set your player to French or something, and play the film to then end (for a WB disc) and see if it starts playing a never ending string of warning cards.

If the video is just a piece of black, then it's either a place holder for a template-style of authoring, or it's a dummy title used for some navigation function. But you usually don't a lot of these, 3 or 4 would probably suffice...

They don't contain video.
One recent example is Fox' "Date Night"...

Post a link to one of them. Or open it in DGIndex and dump the PAT/PMT to see what streams are there.

Maybe they exist purely to confuse anyone trying to rip the disc?
