How to convert progressive to interlaced?

I have a piece of progressive footage (25fps PAL) that I want to insert into some interlaced footage (= home video stuff).

I assume I have to make the progressive clip "interlaced", is this correct? How do I do it?

I've tried searching but can't really find an answer. I believe I have to double the framerate first? With MVTools? But then what?

OR, can I just tick "interlaced TFF" in HC Encoder and let it do it's thing?

You don't have to convert it to interlaced to combine them.

Anyway, it's not possible without doing some field interpolation (possibly using mvtools as you said).

You may be thinking of the case where you have converted interlaced to double rate progressive and then want to re-interlace it.

Bottom line: just combine them as is.
