View Full Version : Encoded DVD Chapter adjustment

Is there any method to quickly adjust DVD chapter timing if the DVD has a black opening and end which are not wanted after encoding with x264? Cutting those out is easy enough but making the necessary adjustment to the chapters isn't.
I already have managed to get the chapters out of the DVD so that isn't a problem.
If one or two seconds are cut from the start, it will require the same adjustment to the chapters. Is there anything that can do this quickly and easily?

You've said "DVD" everywhere, and yet you mention x264. What are you making, a BD-5 or BD-9? I'm not sure about trimming the front, but I know you can trim-off the end in the tsMuxeR process without affecting chapter marks.

The source is a DVD but I want to encode to Mpeg4 AVC with x264 into a MKV container and I want to keep the DVD chapters but because I intend to trim the black/blank video at start and end the chapters will be out by a few seconds.
That's why I want something that will adjust them.

ChapterXtractor can extract chapters from a DVD source and apply a custom offset to the chapters. You can then export the result to a file in various formats. Maybe this is what you're looking for...

Thanks, that sounds like it might do what I want. I did use ChapterXtractor but didn't notice the offset when I used it.
It's a pity that there isn't a tool that can adjust the chapters in a chapter file. Having that ability might be useful, especially when a chapter file starts at an incorrect point.

There are rules that have to be obeyed if one wants to use chaptering on a DVD , you just can't place them anywhere ...

It's not for use on DVD, it's for MKV's encoded from DVD's.
The encoded video is to be adjusted, the black/blank video is to be removed, so the chapters taken from the DVD also need adjusting. That is the reason why I started this thread. I'm not encoding to DVD.

Do the cutting on the DVD before making the MKV. Use VobBlanker for the job and the chapter points will get adjusted at the same time:
