View Full Version : TFM and combing detection cthresh value

Currently working on a anime DVD i just got, and there is a lot of "small" combing on people's mouth when they talk, wondering what are "safe" values for cthresh for TFM, as i have to set it to "2" to detect the combing, and this seems to create some kind of jerkiness in the video when played back.

I'm asking as the manual states "A good range is between 8 to 12.", but there is no info about setting the value too low or too high.

The DVD is a hard telecine 3:2 pulldown NTSC by the way. (at least that is what dgindex and my eyes are telling me)

Also tried to use vinverse but the result does not look any good.

Or should i look into another way to remove the combing?

Edit:
Either DGindex is lying or DVD Decryptor is doing something weird, when i rip 1 full episode (opening + episode + ending) DGindex reports that field order is bottom field, when i rip opening, episode and ending separately into 3 vob files and open them up in dgindex it reports field order is top field.

As i trusted the info from dgindex i used order=0 (bottom) which resulted in minor combing, changing it to order=1 (top) fixed the combing...

the weirdness of video encoding never seems to stop amusing me.
