I have a HTPC since a few years with Microsoft remote control and Windows Media Center, DVBViewer and MediaMonkey.

I have a PC with DVD drive, DVD-S2 card and two screens (one is 22" in size). That's all I need, really.
(Maybe I will add a BluRay drive at some point in the future, but not yet)

No remote control and something comfy like couch or sofa? The MS remote works great with WMC and MPC, you don't even need a driver or additional software like Girder or EventGhost, just plug the USB cable and you are done, it just works.

Nope. I use mouse and keyboard only. And I don't have a sofa, I use an office chair ;)

My config is pretty similar to the computer of LoRd_MuldeR. My machine is very quiet - SSD booting drive, semiactive PSU, low rpm CPU cooler. The video card is passively cooled. Two screens - 24'' LCD and 17"" CRT (for photo work, CRTs provide much better colour rendition than any LCD). Two DVD drives (both modded - no riplock, with rpc1 and bitsetting) and a DVB-T tuner.

I prefer the standalones: the CD player for CDs, the DVD player for DVDs and the BD player for BDs. I use the PC only for production.

I also prefer standalones. I get much more enjoyment watching a movie on my 61" DLP vs. 21" LCD. For playback I use my Samsung BD-35 for Blu-ray and Toshiba HD-A2 for DVD/HD DVD. I use my iPhone connected to my Onkyo TX-SR606 for music.

My PC has been working well so far, especially since I bought a 24 inch monitor and some used Bose speakers off ebay. Next step is probably going to be a 42 inch plasma connected to the computer via hdmi or maybe a networked player if I decide to put it in the living room.

I fail to see the enjoyment of a 22" monitor for HDTV, unless one does it during the working hours ;)

Over the years I've used a succession of network media players.
I started back in 2002 with large form-factor devices that only supported std-def sources in a few containers. And offered limited video and audio output connectivity.
Now I have players that support high-def video and audio sources in a variety of containers and incorporate internal HDD storage space. They also offer HDMI output connectivity ;)

So long since I last posted here.
At this moment I have at home Popcornhour C-200 and an A-110, just ordered an A-200, since I've wired my house with Gigabit cable and switches I don't want to know of anything else.
All the best,
Sharro

A Targa Mpeg4 ASP DVD Player which is 5 years old and the memory card support is crap because it uses USB 1.1 and VBR Mp3 files played on fast memory cards cause stuttering when high pitched sounds are played. The same files play fine if they are burnt to DVD+RW but that is too slow. I have to replace it at some point due to this.
I dislike watching anything on a PC despite it having far more capabilities including dual Terrestrial Freeview tuner, dual DVB-S2 Satellite tuner both using DVBViewer, but I prefer the sofa and TV.

Philips DVP3580 Dvd player on CRT Samsung Tv. It's great little player, plays everything I throw at it, but what I like the most is its great compatibility with Xvid (CQM,s, Qpel, VaQ) for about 50 Euros. :D
