Had lots of success with my winxp setup, just upgraded to win7 ultimate running on a gigabyte GA-770TA motherboard with an AMD Athlon II X4 635 propus 2.9Ghz quad core with 4 gigs of pc3 10666 ram and a sparkle GeForce 8400 GS 512mb 64bit ddr2 pcie x16 video card. I was getting many pixelated errors with my forst install, so I reformatted and started again. With no updates or additional programs installed on the pc the picelation is reduced but still there. I have enclosed the log and a few picture examples. I am at a a loss. I am using the latest bd rebuilder and your versions of FFDSHOW and the Matroska Splitter.

Picture 1792 shows a 'double' sample of the bottom image, another mystery...

this is a little tough to see, I may have to do this with another movie to further illustrate the issue.

Thanks

Hi!

Using the same playback system, do the original BluRay discs display the same anomalies?

1) Make sure your video card is securely seated

2) Clean out the innards of your system to eliminate dust bunnies, grease, etc.

3) Run a cleaning disc on the player you're using for viewing these backups

@john920;
Are you playing this back on your PC via software player? If so, I recommend burning to BD-RE and test on a standalone. This might just be PC/software related.
I did these same discs with no problems. They are only 1080i, but still look really good when played back on my S360! :)

I've watched it on both a lg stand alone player and on a pc. this happens in random spots on everything i do on this win7 machine. I have been wondering about the cheap knockoff video card being a problem... on the pc, i am actually watching the files, no the disc and the errors are in the exact same place, so the problem has to be during the rebuilding process

The originals are clean

If you burned to disc the BD-RB output and you see these same errors when playing the burned disc back on your standalone, then you may have either a VC1 codec issue on reencoding or possibly a bad rip. Windows 7 with VC1 1080i files can be more difficult to backup.
If you run inspect within BD-RB, does all items say OK?
What did you use to rip the original Blu-ray with?

john920
24th July 2010, 16:56
the rip is done with anydvd, if I watch the files on the computer from the rip there are no errors, they are only on the rebuild. It happens with any encoding, not just vc1. I just haven't posted any other examples. This is why I am curious about the video card. But does that have that much of an effect on the re-compression process?

Capsbackup

I would not thinks so, only on the visual display you see on playback. That is why I asked if you burned to disc and watched the burned backup on a seperate source from the PC.
This sounds more like a codec issue.
What does "inspect" report?

john920
24th July 2010, 19:17
inspect? what's that

Capsbackup

inspect? what's that

If you look inside the unzipped file of BD-RB, there is a file with that name. Double click it to open it and then click "inspect". If everything is set up correctly, you will see OK after all listings.

Inspect reports all ok

Nothing is still working?!?!?! any other idea's?

I just read the instructions again, and the only thing that I can think of is that I run bd rebuilder as an administrator every time. other than that, I am doing everything the right way... ugg I might just change the video card for the hell of it, I'm out of ideas

Are you overclocked?
Are you overheating?
Have you cleaned the inside of your PC of all dust, especially the CPU and CPU cooler?
What kind of power supply do you have?
There could be many of reasons, but I doubt it is the video card, but you never know I guess.
Post your inspect log.
If you try a different Blu ray, do you experience the same issues?
If everything worked fine with XP, and you changed nothing else inside your PC except the OS, then it must be a codec issue.

I was unclear in my first post, the upgrade was not just os. I still have the xp system, this was a start from scratch all new system with win7 os. I never overclock and I don't believe I'm overheating anywhere... I've cleaned everything, but it was all new when it went in. I have a 500 watt power supply, also new. Here is the inspect results

Do you have another disc to try? Does the same thing happen with another title?
I can't think of what else it could be. Very frustrating! :(

I have examples from wolverine, that is however from the first win7 install, not the re-install. I have to try something else. I did wolverine 4 different times and got different errors in different spots each time:mad::eek:

There was another user with a similar problem few months ago. He had the same tearing and blocky picture in random parts of the video. IIRC the problem was with his PC hardware (overclocking/CPU/memory).

john920

Ok, but I'm not overclocking anything, so far as I know. I will double check my setting in the cmos, but I am pretty sure they are all on factory settings/auto.

Still, you could have dodgy memory or the Bios doesn't set the timings properly for these sticks.

You can test your memory with Memtest (http://www.memtest.org/), very good IMHO.

I'm not sure what it is... but I am confident is is something peculiar to your system -- as there are no other reports of anything similar.

All three of these examples look like they came from a bad rip -- like when BD+ isn't removed. They could also be the result of CODEC errors.

Memtest reports all ok... now what?

john920
27th July 2010, 01:11
I checked the cmos, everything is set to 'auto' so I have no idea what the hell is going on

jdobbs
27th July 2010, 02:26
Take a look at any other playback/video software you've installed. My guess is that some other video CODEC is interfering with BD-RB and DirectShow -- and isn't playing back correctly. It could be during the final playback or during the frame serving to the encoder.

the pc with bd rebuillder has no other playback software on it, just win7 and bd rebuilder

Last night I added a pcie sata controller card with a sil 3132 chipset. I moved my source and destination drives to this card, changed bd rebuilder not to run as an administrator. Again, the only programs on this pc are windows 7: with no updates, firefox, winzip, winrar.

checked it this morning watched the files on another computer using arcsoft totalmedia theater

Its even worse than last time! even the menu has errors!
Could I have a bad copy of windows?

@john920

You've got a bigger problem than backups. When doing a BD-25 backup (like yours) BD Rebuilder doesn't even modify menus unless they are exceptionally gigantic. In other words -- you're getting pixelation on the original menu...

This will not make for a successful outcome!
Have you tried just a movie only backup?
Perhaps uninstall avisynth, haali, and ffdshow. Reboot. Reinstall those three programs and try some small test .mpls files/trailers in movie only mode to see if they work and play back properly.

I have tried wolverine before, with earlier config's on the same system. I guess I should re-install windows again and start over.... I'm going nuts here...
would I be better off having a single hard drive doing all the work and not using a source and destination setup with a third running windows?

would I be better off having a single hard drive doing all the work and not using a source and destination setup with a third running windows?I'd recommend a single O/S drive (with all your personal programs etc.) and a second video drive. I would then disable Windows indexing and any background antivirus checks on the video drive -- that will make a noticable speed difference. Just make sure the second drive is large enough to do your backup work.

The best solution still remains a dedicated PC (video only) - thus no antivirus software needed, nor any other bloatware and Co. Of course the internet should remain taboo.

Having 2 partitions is a questionable advantage, better it would be solution of two physical HDDs, a small faster one for the OS, and a second for data, maybe programs. Where to place the swap is a question those answer depends on the actual load of those two HDDs. Still better would be a third HDD, only for the swap, but 6.4GB HDDs are quite rara avis, plus it may occupy the place of an optical drive.

Still having the pixelation issues. I have upgraded the cooling fan, and I even upgraded the entire computer. I now have an Intel DP55WB Socket LGA1156 Motherboard with an Intel Core i5-760 2.8Ghz 8M LGA1156 CPU with 4GB DDR3 PC10666 1333MHZ ram and a MSI N250GTS TwinFrozr 1G OC GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card. I also have a real licensed copy of windows 7 professional.

There is no anti-virus programming installed or anything else for that matter besides the rewuirements for be rebuilder, and qinrar and winzip. The machine has been setup to connect to my domain.

Excitedly I ram my first bd25 full backup of Youth in Revolt. EVERYTHING was messed up... even the menu's have pixelation errors. I threw out that disc and then tried life disc 2. Again the pixellation has returned. I don't know what could be going on here?!??! should I disconnect from the network when running be-rebuilder?

There's a bottleneck on your computer, could be the memory (overclocked or underclocked-waisted timmings), or the internal busses. It simply may be the contacts (remove and reinstall both the memory and the GraKa). Run some diagnose tools. Supposingly you have an optical BD-drive and something like powerdvdbd, would the original BD play on your PC?

PS: I assume the rips are ok. You can test them on another PC (or step by step, frame by frame on this PC).

@john920

Hi!

For kicks and giggles, instead of AnyDVD HD, try using either DVDFab Passkey or MakeMKV to make full disc saves to your hard drive...

how can I check for the bottleneck issues. I just built this machine. I made no changes to the standard bios settings, so everything should be running where it is supposed to be with no overclocking. I also have nothing else installed on the machine or running in the background. I do have an upgraded cooling fan which I still have to install. I run the windows task manager while I do the backups, and only 1 - 2 gigs of the 4 gigs of ram is being used during the process.

Trying Nightmare on Elm street now, testing the completed product same issue...

Just noticed that bd rebuilder is occasionally 'not responding' during the extracting phase of the file rebuild... .this can't be good.... and yes barely 1 gig of ram is being used of the 4 installed

@john920;
Did you build the first pc that has these issues too?
Did you reuse any of the components from that first build?

only the Power supply... I'm starting to think I need to change it...

Do you have some odd video software installed? It sure looks like a CODEC issue, and it is happening only on your system.

I must be special, But I have nothing else installed, I installed win7 then winzip, then winrar, then Avisynth_257, then ffdshow rev 3133.20091117.clsid.exe and then Matroska Splitter, all from your first posting.
Then I unzip bdrebuilder run as admin and let it correct the settings and nothing else... no updates or anything else has been installed. I rebooted and started doing youth in revolt... the rest is history...

But you haven't yet the time to run neither a BD compliance test, nor a hardware benchmark, nor even to run the BD-rip frame-by-frame to see whether the rip is defective or the PC.

That will take any directshow codecs out of the picture (as long as you don't have any filters enabled). At least it will point us in the right direction.

I'd like to say it is bad memory or some other hardware problem -- but you'd expect to see that cause a system to crash rather than just create bad video.

I have checked the spots on the rip and they appear clean, bd compliance test do you mean inspect? and in terms of a benchmark do you have any suggestions for me?
