4.0 speaker configuration questions

Dear All,

If I have a 4.0 speaker configuration and play a 5.1 or 7.1 signal through HDMI (receiver and computer are set to 4 speaker configuration)
will bass be redirected to only the front speakers or also to the rear ones?

What happens to the content of the center channel? Will it be mixed to the front speakers?

I don't know, I guess it would depend on the speaker's amplifier system... but logically center would go to the front speakers and bass would go to all.

AC3 Filter converts 5.1 to 4.0 like this:

So as you can see bass goes evenly to all 4 speakers and center goes just to the front speakers.

I am almost sure that the LFE .1 channel will be dropped. The centre channel should be spilt equally between both the front left and right speakers.
