Hi,

I made a dvd out of my miniDV tape, and I would like to know what kind of programs you use to encode the sound. I am currently using CCE, but the resulting .mpa file is not sufficient, because when I play the dvd, the sound is not digital. Is there a program which can make a better encoding of sound from an .avi file?

Thanks,

grer

there are several approaches I know of:

easiest (but potentially only with more expensive DVD authoring packages) is to use a dvd authoring program which will accept .wav or .mpa, then convert them to Dolby Digital
ReelDVD will do this to 2-channel Dolby
Since your source is 2 channel this is fine
BTW this will save you considerable space on DVDR

use Sound Forge's Soft Encode, a discontiuned product; this accepts up to 6 wavs and encodes them to up to 5.1 AC3
Dolby Surround is supported

use Surcode's DVD DTS to accept up to 6 sources to produce a 5.1 DTS file. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as 2 channel DTS, but the program looks like it might support this (but don't know of any method to mux the video and the DTS streams)

Others may be able to help with other DVD authoring packages that do the conversion

Jeff
