HD DVD encoding?

I am using AnyDVD HD to rip both my blu-rays and HD DVDs to hdd. I use BD Rebuilder for the blu-rays. However, BD Rebuilder does not work with HD DVDs. Is there an encoder that I can use for HD DVDs that will shrink them in size as not to take of so much room on my HDDs like BD Rebuilder does?

not for full hd dvd with menus. for movie only it is easy...use clown_bd to make a new bluray structure from the hd dvd (uses eac3to, etc), then use bd rebuilder...

Hi!

As an alternative and quite simple method, you can use "tsMuxer" as follows:

1) Sequentially load the main movie .EVOs (usually two) into "tsMuxeR", using the "Join" function
2) Select "BluRay" at the BOTTOM of the window
3) Click on "Start muxing"

Thanks Guys for your help, "clown_bd" worked great! I downloaded "tsMuxer", but have not tried it yet. I probably will do so later tonight. Is one preferred over the other, or does both work about the same?

ClownBD is a front end for eac3to and tsMuxer. It's calling them under the covers and gives you a lot of control over your backup.

Hi!

You still need to use eac3to to make your audio BD compliant (e-AC3 conversion, adding AC3 core to TrueHD and applying correct delay if any). This means for most users Clown_BD is the correct choice.

It's been quite a while since I've converted any of my original HD-DVDs but, as I recall, ALL of them had 5.1 .AC3 or DTS tracks (NO conversion required), while some had "TrueHD" as an additional choice...

Hi,
I am confused on the correct audio output format selection within clown. I have been leaving it set at "Unconverted" for all the HD DVDs. However, even disc with TrueHD never shows as such when played backed after an encode through my AV Receiver, but all show as Dolby Digital 5.1. What is the "core" selection for and when would I need to select it or AC3 or DTS?

I tried it out on my HD DVD "300". I ripped the two largest files it showed, but when played back both had the background movie blue screen, which must be part of the extra features, but there were no other files showing that were large enough to have been the movie. It was very unclear to what files needed to be extracted for the featured movie. I was surprised that I was unable to copy the whole folder, but instead file by file needs to be selected and added. What am I doing wrong? Is there a users guide somewhere for tsMuxeR? I am assuming that this software is not compressing the movie any, but instead I still need to use BD_Rebuilder, is this correct?
