I usually start with DVD-Shrink or DVD-Decrypter and then Auto-GK

If both DVD-Shrink or Decrypter do not work as expected (due to a protection scheme), there is DVDFab Decrypter (free) that does a pretty good job

Indeed. I personally use SlySoft AnyDVD HD for BluRay ripping, so I just leave it on all the time for decrypting DVDs as well.

It does a nice job :)

If you want to try something other than AutoGK, try out Ripbot264 or something like that. Do use x264 if you're not already!!!
