I play most of my x264 movies on my modded xbox using XBMC. I recently updated megui (after not updating for a lonnnggg time) and I noticed that my movies didn't play on XBMC on my xbox when the movies were encoded using the r1649 build of x264. After a series of tests comparing various versions of x264 I realized that the issue is between versions r1542 and r1563. XBMC uses mplayer. However, these movies play fine on my windows computer using smplayer. Is this a bug? Where do I report this?

Have you tried updating XBMC?

I just did. I am currently using T3CH's build, the latest is July 8, 2010. The issue is still there.

"Didn't play" isn't an error message.

Sorry about that, I'll post the log as soon as I figure out how to get this info from XBMC.

The previous version of XBMC that I had was T3CH XBMC 2009-06-01 9.04.1-FIXED-Babylon. This version also produced the error. After compressing with various versions I found that videos encoded with r1542 worked but switching to r1563 and later cause XBMC to freeze.

The only thing I can imagine is that XBMC has a 3-year-old version of ffmpeg, but I doubt they would be so stupid to use something that outdated... file a bug report with them.

Will do. I'll check what version of ffmpeg they use. Wouldn't surprise me if they are using an older version. XBMC for the original xbox isn't even supported by them anymore, I guess they don't want to develop for a dead platform with 64 MB RAM and a 700 MHz processor. I was poking around online and I found this post on an x264 builder, named JEEB, regarding x264 r1563 (the first version where the issues start)...
And another bites the dust... 64bit ffmpeg built without SSE optimizations because of this (http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.ffmpeg.devel/102906). But seriously, has anyone had any bugs come up with mine or someone else's 64bit ffmpeg-based 64bit builds? Personally I think this issue should be looked into more thoroughly.
