View Full Version : VBR audio stream detected

I usually mux video with CBR 160k mp3 audio with NanDub when creating DivX4 movies. The other day I opened the finished movie in VirtualDub and it gave me a "VBR audio stream detected" warning. I am quite sure that the mp3 was CBR encoded, so I guess this is something that I should blame NanDub for. I read the relevant message of Avery Lee dated 2nd of Dec 2001 at his site (have a look here (http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_news)), though I'm not quite sure that I can follow all these technical details he's talking about. Is this something that I should be alarmed? Is it better to mux the video with a wav-mp3 in VirtualDub instead?

Using the "Audio / (VBR) MP3 audio..." from nandub's menu produces messed up avi output. The debug version of directx dlls won't even let you play those files in media player because it will assert for every audio frame and will pop up a dialog box... I have to do a recompress nearly every time I dl something from the web :(

Well, to be honest I never noticed a problem whatever player I used to watch these movies (Zoom, MicroDVD, WMP itself) and I guess a lot of pals out there mux with NanDub. Which is this debug version of DirectX DLL's that you're mentioning? Sorry if this sounds a silly question...

Actually, playing back through this API is the only case when there is no noticable problem.Which is this debug version of DirectX DLL's that you're mentioning? Sorry if this sounds a silly question... Debug dlls can be installed along with the directx sdk. That's the poping up dialog box I was talking about: http://vobsub.edensrising.com/untitled.PNG
(Eh, just noticed "[IMG] code is OFF"...)

I know this is an old topic but its the closet match on my search.
I'm going to mux a VBR 160 mp3 into an avi with VDubMod and get a VBR audio stream detected warning when addin. VDubMod prompts me to rewrite the audio header with standard CBR for compatibility. Would I be at an disadvatange for not doing so? because it warns rewriting will introduce a skew from the avi stream. Thanks

just click no. don't rewrite anything.you'll be fine :) if you do, it'll be out of synch (you'd need to reencode)
