I have experimented with Xvid and I have found very little quality/compression difference between using 5 and 6 as the motion search precision. However, the time saved using a value of 5 is worth it...no? So perhaps using 5 for both 1 cd and 2 cd rips is better?

-h, as a moderator and a person who has a LOT more experience with Xvid than the rest of us, do you think that the quality gain by choosing 6 is worth the extra encoding time?
I know, each one should try and see it by himself, but still i would like to know your opinion.

For me, even if I knew the difference was everso tiny, i'd probably still choose 6. :)

For me, the gain in compression (which is around 0.3% in most cases) is simply not worth the time - we're talking about a couple dozen frames in the entire movie that would look *ever so slightly* better. But then again, I know I like the option of being able to squeeze as much out as possible.

Although the option is 'nice' to have, I certainly don't use it. I don't think anyone but the most quality-obsessed should use it really - and those folk should probably stick to hand-optimised MPEG2 streams or some such :)

Humm, since i'm no quality freak, probably will stick to 5 ;)

I see all my movies in a tv, so even a not very perfect movie seems very good.
