View Full Version : Capturing with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 or should use another programme to captur?

I have a Canon Legria HV40, Windows 7 and have bought Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate.

Should I capture using Pinnacle (I have Firewire) or is there better programmes for capturing? The reason I'm asking, is when I capture, the image that displays on the PC does not appear to be "smooth".

I am from South Africa, so we use PAL- 25 fps. What should the settings be? 1440 by 1080?

In the other posts I have read that people are using hdvsplit. In the past I have also used Virtualdub for capturing.

So to summarize- Pinnacle, or another programme for capturing? I am happy with the editing, etc.

Thanks

I have captured the HDV using HDVsplit. The files are now in m2t format.

If I open Pinnacle Studio 14, I am able to see the title of these files, but if I drag them to the storyboard, I cannot open it. My perception is that I need to change the format to mpeg to continue with the editing. Or is there a plug-in for Studio 14?

What am I not doing, or doing incorrectly?

Thanks for any advice

Try renaming the files M2TS. If that doesn't work then simply TS.

I just can't get it right.

On the screen shots it shows the one clip that was captured by Pinnacle (m2v file), but the others just show these blocks, despite dragging them in to the story line. I changed the file type to m2ts or just ts, but no difference.

Or should the easiest be to just use Pinnacle for capturing- my impression has been that it was quite "jerky" while capturing

Thanks for any opinions

Have you ever used search? Or checked the mfg. page? The FAQ says that one cannot import Transport streams (TS files). M2T is a TS file (actually a 192B M2TS one). ->http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=289899&Hilite=

I never used (or ever will) Pinnacle, so if I'm wrong is because I read so. ;)

Yes I do read and search, been searching/googling for at least 2 days.

So in your opinion, what is the best capturing programme that will capture in mpg? Because then I will be able to use it in Pinnacle.

Thanks

The Avid quote:

Can I import *.FLV (Flash) or *.TS (Transport Stream) files?
Currently these kind of files can't be used with Studio 14.

However, you can make use of the files with Studio 14 by converting them first into one of the supported formats. There are several free conversion applications available; one of them is SUPER of eRightSoft (as of 09/2009).

For me it seems senseless to capture and then convert before I can use the file.

I can much easier capture direct with a good programme in mpeg.

I think I'm going to stop struggling and give this version away.

What good programmes can people recommend? Vegas? or what else?

Any advice please
