Hi!Im having a problem with dvd shrink. I keep getting this apphangb1 error when i try and backup certain dvds
1) What are the titles and region numbers of the specific problematic DVDs?
2) Have you tried using other ripping programs, instead of DVD Shrink?

Use DVDFab to rip and Shrink to encode.

well the dvd shrink though keeps freezing even after removing it and reinstalling it. this apphang error screws up things on the program. what alternative is there to dvd shrink???

Getting nowhere slow here.
@art3 - perhaps you could show your entire workflow:
-What do you use to rip the disc - in other words copy the contents of the DVD to your hard disc?
-What have you tried using for the transcoding the file - the "shrink" aspect of the process? You say DVD Shrink hangs. Have you tried anything else?
-Have you ever successfully got as far as a disc image or DVD files to burn and if so what did you try burning with.
-What other software also exhibits this AppHang error? You said IE as well. Is it unique to these two or do other applications do this?
The more info you can offer, the more help you'll get.

And again (in addition to the new questions by "Nick"), what is the title of your problematic DVD?

Ive been using dvd shrink to shrink the dvd onto my hard drive. then i use xillisoft dvd copy express to burn the dvd file onto a blank dvd disc.
Im not only getting apphangb1 error when I try to use dvd shrink. Im getting it when I run mcaffee. Also Im getting a APPCRASH error often when Im surfing the net on ie7. SO Im getting apphangb1 with multiple programs- dvd shrink, mcaffee, sometimes with real player. And Im getting an APPCRASH error every day with ie7. this is getting very frustrating!
error i get with ie7-

@art3
I can only surmise that since you are unwilling to state the title of the problematic DVD, the DVD itself is likely a contributing cause of your problems.
Without knowing the title, there's no way that any of us who may own the same DVD can provide any personal insight - and simply guessing at a cause is fruitless, leading to the logical extreme conclusion suggested by "Ghitulescu"...

(Getting the title from you is like getting blood from a stone!)
Presuming it is the "Ken Burns - National Parks" DVD set, Amazon states the following: This product may not be compatible with some DVD players manufactured before 2006.Does this apply to your hardware?
If the DVD is a different title, please be good enough to simply state it here...

Despite the fact that the "Description" states:Application Name: dvdshrink
Application Version: 7.0.6001.18248
Application Timestamp: 49f1c24f the "Application Version" and "Application Timestamp" are those of Internet Explorer (iexplore.exe) and not DVD Shrink.
A successful resolution to this problem was provided at another forum, as follows (The "Quicktime" info may or may not be pertinent to your situation): •Sunday, July 26, 2009 5:27 PMGrahamWilmott
Ok - I would suggest uninstalling quick time (from control panel), rebooting, and then reinstalling quick time using this link .
If that doesn't have any effect, try resetting Internet Explorer to defaults (tools --> internet options --> advanced --> reset)

Let us know when you resolve this...
Nick
19th June 2010, 10:41
The more you tell us the less likely I think you are to resolve this with alternative software.
It sounds like a deep-rooted OS problem or possibly a hardware issue.
Reinstalling Vista may fix it. Short of that, or if that doesn't help, I would check for resource conflicts, remove any unnecessary peripheral hardware and see if it helps. Check for driver updates for all your hardware. Try running Memtest from a bootable CD to check for RAM errors. Things like this may turn something up.
I am pretty sure there will be no simple fix for this though, I'm afraid
