Good news from DarkAvenger,
he stated in the hydrogenaudio.org Forum that he successfully modified the vorbis.dll such that it can read floating point values now, and that next release of HeadAC3he will support Vorbis, maybe even in multichannel version.
So, together with Tobias' Ogg muxing tool we will be able to use Vorbis with DivX4/XviD pretty soon now ....

that is so awesome. I've been doing NanDub/VBR-MP3 for so long now, it is going to be really weird to just switch to Xvid/Vorbis one of these days. :-)

Hi Chris!
I thought I read in one of the forums that multichannels Vorbis files are a dream. Apparently the multichannels weren't exactly designed for surround sound. If the various channels aren't for surround sound then what the heck are they used for? Please tell me I'm mistaking and we will have glorious surround vorbis files soon;)

I couldnt think of any other purposes than
- surround sound ( 7.1 no prob in Vorbis, even 248.4.3 should be possible :D )
- multi language audio streams
- mixed ( surround in multi languages )
Where did you read multi channel was not ment to be for surround ?
If you refer to Doom9 statement in the General section, he is talking about the fact that no encoding apps. will suport the multi channel encoding right now .... but this is to come for absolutely certain ...

Honestly I have no idea if I read this here or over on the Hydrogen forums:)
Anyways, I've been testing 6 channel Ogg files with D A's HeadAC3he 0.21 alpha3. It's very impressive to say the least:D Tak e a look at my findings though-

I'm just as excited as you! I'm pretty positive at this point that it's working. However, I won't no for sure until later when I test much better samples. My first test was the new remastered "Wizard of Oz" for my girlfriend:p
Next test will be an action movie such as "Pitch Black" which has one of the best DD tracks around IMO. I'll post my results later.

The encoding seems to work without problems. Only the decoding is a problem. Even a "oggdec" program doesn't exist, AFAIK, so PP's winamp plugin is the best you can get, but still not good for multi-channel oggs.

It seems to me this could be fixed easily though. I'm not a coder so I have no idea. This is very exciting progress though.
@Chris
Is it possible for you to contact PP to ask him for a fix to center channel mapping problem?
