MPG to Divx in Win7 64 reliable encoder?
Hi all.

Is there version of Guardian Knot that works with MPG?

win7 64 and a decent encoder for Divx 6 encodeing
After having some problems with my hauppauge HVR 2200 (same card as 2250 but PAL) and re-imaging my system to an image from November last (2009) year to attempt to overcome the problems Dr Divx broke... and after trying all the usual I cannot bring the doctor back.
I convert .TS files to MPG by de-Muxing with Projextx then Re-muxing with Imogox's MPEG Multiplexor.
AVI.net works with tweaks, except for when the screen size option is pressed and it crashes, and 640 X 480 is not what I want.

Or can someone please point me towards a decent encoder... all the freeware and trial programs I've tried so far have problems.
Including those listed for download on doom9.
I want to encode to 720 height, quality setting of "4"

Gordian Knot seems to be written for VOB's .. is there a tutorial for using a version for MPG files such as what I have?

Help appreciated.

GKnot was written for DGIndex D2V project files (at least partly). If you can make a D2V, then GKnot can generate an AviSynth script and do all the rest. I know of no reason why DGIndex won't be able to create a D2V for your MPGs.

Do you mean you want to do a single pass for a quant of 4? If so, then GKnot isn't your tool. It only does two-pass encodes for specific filesizes or bitrates. Perhaps you should look into using AutoGK instead and rather than using the default settings, set it for single pass Target Percentage encodes for 50-60%. A quant 4 encode isn't such good quality, as I guess you know. It won't encode to a specific height, though, but only to a specific width. If the intended output resolution is 1280x720, then set the fixed width of 1280 in the Advanced Settings.

Why do you want Divx? There are simpler methods for storing and playing the DVB content on DVDs and/or BDRs, with no reencoding at all ...
