For some reason, whenever i open over 1/2 of my AVI files, or try to play a DVD, it just shows a black screen, but plays audio and the trackbar moves as if it was playing video. any ideas why? i havent been able to figure out the reason for the life of me. appreciate any feedback.

Please do not post twice the same question. It's against forum rules!
I will delete the other one and leave this one.
Just wait patientiely for someone to answer you.
And please provide some more details. There can be hundreds of reasons. And what do you mean by "open 1/2 of my AVI"...
Just a thought - did you install all necessary codecs???

sorry about the double post, had something to do with refreshing i think. by 1/2 of my AVIs, i mean half of the AVIs that i have, im not sure what sets them apart from other AVI files i have, the only thing i could think of was the codec, but i have Divx 3.11, 4.12, and the VKI. i also have the same problem when i try to open MPEG, MPG, MOV files. shows a black screen, plays audio and plays the video, just doesnt SHOW the video :/

Ok... not a problem.
Get rid of VKI. If you have divx3.11 and divx4.xx it's more than enough. Did you try looking at the brightness settings in filter properties??? Maybe you have it set to 0.

No.. thats not the problems, the STRANGE thing is, when i first start the file in question, it will show the first frame, that i can catch a glimpse of, then the rest will be black screen. also, another strange thing, if i ALT+ENTER rapidly, i can sometimes catch it on a frame and it will play fine, but ive only gotten this to work a few times. i looked and i actually dont have the VKI Codec installed, nor do i have 3.11 installed, even though i just installed them both. i have 4.12 installed only... im really dumbfounded, this has never happened on this comp before, would it have anything to do with switching to Win2000?
thanks for the help.

Well...to be honest I don't know what can be your problem. I have never faced anything like this and never heard. The only possibilities I could think of I have already mentioned. I used to work on Win98SE and switched to WinXP a month ago and never had this kind of problems.
Hope there is someone who had the same difficulties or heard of any and can help you here...
take care

Sounds like an overlay problem. My first hint would be to check the overlay settings of your graphics card. Though I have no idea why it only happens sometimes and not always. What player and what graphics card are you using?
