I've been using MeGUI for a little while now, and I find its "analyse deinterlacing" feature to be pretty handy. Sadly, no nocumentation appears to exist as to the exact meanings of the terms listed.
In the case of a 3:2 (pulldown pattern) film DVD, it appears as though it sets it to "Progressive" if DGindex indicates it to be 95+% film (the exact number being changeable through the options menu), "Film" if it's anything less (or even NTSC).
It alternately shows "Hybrid film/interlaced, mostly film" if there is some pure interlace in there, such as the opening credits of a television show that's otherwise fully 3:2.
Then there's "Partially film". I've come across it twice so far while encoding my movies, and in both cases (and I've spent a long time looking) the movies appear to be nothing but 3:2. Beyond that, I can't even think of a category that it could be that isn't already covered by "Film" or "Hybrid film/interlaced, mostly film". What is the analysis picking up that I'm missing?
